The first snow of the season arrived last Sunday. We are grateful to have been able to get operations up and running at our new training facility before the start of the winter season. It’s been working out great! And we enjoy keeping busy with a full stable of horses and riders to train and teach. We want to thank everyone who has been supportive of our program and endeavors - we couldn’t have done it without you!

Say Hello to Buttons! He's an adorable former eventing Welsh Pony owned by Kelly Ford and her daughters Lucy and Maile. Buttons recently joined our program as a lower level dressage/jumping school horse. He's now available for lessons for experienced junior riders and smaller adults - please call Meggie at 208-850-0884 for more information. In the video, one of our regular school horse students, Kaitlyn Wisdom, is having her first lesson on Buttons. They make a such cute pair!

Whisper Creek Dressage is now looking to invite an additional trainer to our boarding facility. This is an exciting opportunity for local trainers that are interested in finding high-quality full care boarding for their horses and their clients’ horses.

Our facility offers a new large 66' x 132' indoor arena and main barn with insulated tack room, perfect for all-weather riding. Our new stable has 12' x 12' matted stalls with Dutch doors and automatic heated waterers.

Eventing trainers will be given preference, but trainers of all English riding disciplines may be considered. Please DM for more information.

We have made the move back to our Whisper Creek Dressage facility this weekend! The horses are loving the forest views out of their stall windows and there is still much unpacking and organizing to do. In this video, Meggie and Tambien are enjoying light work in the indoor arena, out of the direct sun heat and settling bad air and smoke.
With mornings already getting cooler and winter just around the corner, we can ride all day, evenings, and through all the changing seasons. With our hard work and sacrifice, we can now offer safe and pleasant barn and training spaces for students and horses. Our private boutique facility and flexible program options also means plenty of time and space to ride. We are conveniently located in a neighborhood right off Highway 44 between Star and Middleton.

With the Summer Olympics coming to a close, we would like to acknowledge Snoop Dog for donning a dressage show uniform and being a color commentator for the dressage events. Back in 2013, Meggie on board Spinnaker, performed her "Give Up the Funk" 4th level musical freestyle, featuring Snoop Dog. With the score of 71.33%, they were overall Musical Freestyle Champions at the Central Oregon Dressage Show. Check out the video on our Whisper Creek Dressage YouTube channel.

Fencing work has started in the turn out pastures at Whisper Creek Dressage’s new training facility. We will have three pastures for turnout - two with loafing sheds. All three have access to automatic waterer. There will also be a dry lot/round pen turn out. We have stalls available for those interested in training - give us a call for a tour (208) 850-0985. We received pieces of history from our beloved mentors, Jan and Ernie Herrmann - two needlepoint works that was gifted to them by a former student. These originally hung in the Once Upon A Horse Dressage tack room for years. Now, they are displayed in our main barn tack room. They bring back fond memories. Thank you Jan and Ernie, for your training, coaching, kindness and guidance for these past 20+ years.

The weather has been lovely today and it's like Grand Central Station in our backyard.😀

It’s been just 3 days since Morton started construction and they have already poured the concrete footings and delivered the roof trusses. Having the double crews has really moved the process along. It was amazing how they backed the big rig with the trusses from the street, past the main barn and into the pasture.

Our Story: Whisper Creek Idaho Dressage Trainers

Whisper Creek Idaho Dressage specializes in dressage instruction/training, dressage show management and the development of dressage sport horses. Our trainers are USDF Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists and have combined experience in showing, coaching and/or managing state, national and international level dressage shows. Our dressage horses have received regional, national and international award recognition.

We believe that anyone can benefit from dressage training. Our goal is to help the horse and rider find balance and connection in order to develop better harmony and physical fitness. We are enthusiastic to utilize and share our knowledge and experience in dressage management, training and riding instruction.

About our trainers:

Lead Trainer: Meghan Lianne Slaughter, AA, BS

By the time she was 18 years old, Meghan Slaughter has earned her USDF Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for her proficiency in First Level through Grand Prix, the highest level in dressage. Meghan holds the record as the youngest rider, amongst a small handful of Grand Prix riders, in the State of Idaho to receive her USDF Gold Medal. She also received her USDF Bronze and Silver Bar in musical freestyle, currently being the youngest rider in USDF history to have earned the Bronze Bar. As a Junior/Young Rider, she competed at the North American Junior Young Rider Championships, representing the USDF Region 6 Team, with our Grand Prix horse Spinnaker. She also won numerous USDF Region 6 championships including FEI Junior Champion.

After completing her Associate of Arts in General Studies degree from Idaho State University while she was still in high school, she graduated with high honors from Cal Poly University at San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary degree. During her freshman year at Cal Poly, Meghan joined the Dressage Team and earned Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) Region U Individual Champion and joined the rest of the Cal Poly Team at IDA Nationals 2015 where she won National Reserve Individual Champion. From assistant coach in her freshman year, Meghan became Head Coach and Dressage Trainer for Cal Poly for the remainder of her undergraduate years. She helped the Cal Poly Dressage Show Team (training both students and horses) continue their streak as Regional Champions and has enjoyed guiding all of the club members through their dressage education. For her distinguished work at Cal Poly and continued dressage community service, Meghan was awarded the 2017 USDF Youth Volunteer of the Year Award.

Meghan has trained with FEI level trainers Ernst and Janet Herrmann and Heather Oleson. She has also trained, in either clinics or regularly, with other FEI level trainers such as “S” Judges Melonie Kessler and Barbi Breen-Gurley, Jeremy Steinberg, Carmie Flaherty (Canadian Level 3 Certified Dressage Coach), Christian Schacht and Rider Pilates clinician Beth Glosten, MD, to name a few.

Meghan has joined the Whisper Creek Idaho team as Lead Trainer, using her extensive experience to provide quality dressage training and instruction. She is also currently training Whisper Creek Idaho's developing dressage sport horse W Estanislau (2010 Hanoverian out of Wolkentanz II).

Manager/Trainer: May Calins Slaughter, BS, BBA, MS Ed

With her degrees in biochemistry, business administration and exercise physiology/health education, May had worked in both academic and hospital based health/athletic education programs. After moving to acreage in a rural community, she pursued her interest to transition to working with both equine and human athletes.

While working with racehorses as a licensed trainer/owner for almost a decade, May became involved in dressage as a show mom, supporting her daughter’s efforts from Training Level to Grand Prix. She has since become a USDF Bronze Medalist and is now training and showing in Fourth Level and Prix St. George with her Trakehner gelding Spinnaker. With almost 20 years of English riding and dressage experience, May has trained with FEI level trainers Ernst and Janet Herrmann and Heather Oleson. She has participated in clinics with other FEI level trainers such as “S” Judges Melonie Kessler and Barbi Breen-Gurley and Rider Pilates clinician Beth Glosten, MD.

May’s past experience extends to managing her small family farm sport horse and miniature cattle breeding program. She is also Level I, II, III USEF Licensed/USDF Recognized Dressage Show Manager and continues her education towards becoming a USEF Licensed Technical Delegate.
