With the Summer Olympics coming to a close, we would like to acknowledge Snoop Dog for donning a dressage show uniform and being a color commentator for the dressage events. Back in 2013, Meggie on board Spinnaker, performed her "Give Up the Funk" 4th level musical freestyle, featuring Snoop Dog. With the score of 71.33%, they were overall Musical Freestyle Champions at the Central Oregon Dressage Show. Check out the video on our Whisper Creek Dressage YouTube channel.

We received pieces of history from our beloved mentors, Jan and Ernie Herrmann - two needlepoint works that was gifted to them by a former student. These originally hung in the Once Upon A Horse Dressage tack room for years. Now, they are displayed in our main barn tack room. They bring back fond memories. Thank you Jan and Ernie, for your training, coaching, kindness and guidance for these past 20+ years.

Congratulations to our head trainer, Meghan Slaughter! She has received her Masters of Kinesiology degree diploma from Boise State University. Kinesiology is the study of movement. It incorporates the sciences - including anatomy, physiology, sociology and psychology - when looking at the effect of movement on the body. Meghan's area of focus has been on the effects of sports training on horses. Thank you to everyone for your kind support during her graduate studies.

Horse stall construction continues in our new stable. Lance is building unique and practical features into the stall walls. The 8 foot walls are double sided walls constructed with large 12 inch wood boards which are more difficult for a kicking horse to break but are still forgiving. Also, the boards are screwed in (as opposed to nailed) which allows for easier removal and replacement of broken boards. The walls also feature a durable steel mesh window that allows horses to see and smell (but not touch) their neighbors so they are less inclined to jump up and peer above the wall.

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), our primary resource for health and fitness information, has just unveiled an updated brand identity that dovetails well with our WCI dressage mission. As listed in "Level 3" of the ACSM logo - our community education outreach efforts are working towards MOVING HORSE AND RIDER HEALTH & PERFORMANCE FORWARD.

Our WCI co-owner, dressage trainer and masters level exercise physiologist, May Slaughter, had originally received her ACSM certification back in 1992 and she worked in academic and hospital based health/wellness programs before pursuing dressage training. May currently maintains her ACSM health/fitness professional membership. For more information about ACSM, check out their website at https://www.acsm.org/

Our goal of completing construction and moving back in July 2024 is moving forward. With the automatic waterers and breezeway flooring installed in the horse stable, Lance Borghero of JBL construction (see photo) has begun work on the 12' x 12' horse stalls, starting with the stall dividers. We will receive delivery of the Noble stall fronts and exterior Dutch doors next week.

Also, we received delivery of 225+ tons of aggregate materials (see photo) for the indoor arena base today via "super dump trucks" (so named because they can carry up to 24 tons of material at one time). Santacruz Dirtworks will spread, level and roll the base material tomorrow. Once the base settles in, the arena sand and rubber composite material will be installed next week.

Next month, we will begin taking appointments for tours of our new and improved facility and adding to our waitlist for training/board. We are so excited! Stay tuned!

When we are close to completion, we will start to invite everyone to visit our expanded facility and learn more about our updated training programs which will include an emphasis on horse and rider fitness. Stay tuned for more information!

We hope you get to enjoy the sunshine today! The indoor arena structure (apart from the overhead doors which will be installed later) is complete. Next up will be electrical, lighting and footing.
Meanwhile, the horse stable construction has started. And we are busy making orders and scheduling contractors to install the horse stalls, water cans, fencing and work on drainage and excavation. There's still a lot to get done but we are getting closer. 😊
