While winter is still a ways off, temperatures, and weather conditions, have been fluctuating greatly. It's that time of year where it can be cloudy in the AM, sunny mid-morning, pouring in the afternoon, and threatening to put a frost on your plants by midnight. If you put your pups outside, make sure there's shelter from the elements, and they have plenty of fresh water. Monitor regularly to see if they shouldn't be brought in.

It's flea and tick time! Yay!!!

Not!

Did you know fleas can jump a human equivalent of 1,200 feet? Ticks, those lazy so-and-sos, just wait for people or animals to walk by them on grass and plants, and then hitch a ride.

Both fleas and ticks feed off of blood. Fleas stay around, without paying rent. Ticks grab a meal and go, finding a new, or a repeat victim when they're hungry.

Fleas can live for a few months, while ticks can hang around for up to three years. Holy-Moly!

Flea infestations do not just involve the fleas you can see. Eggs, larvae, and pupae make up the vast majority, at 95 percent. Those invisible-to-you critters are out there, lurking, just waiting until they come of age, to keep the cycle going. The trick is to send all stages to the depths of flea Hades.

Be sure to protect your furry loved ones with the protection of your choice. The important thing is to not allow a flea infestation to start, or for your pet to be inviting to ticks.

The calendar says that spring is almost upon us, although, these days, I wonder! Even with the inconsistent weather, we can be sure that summer will show up before we know it, and will include vacations, day trips, and weekend getaways. Be sure your pets are well taken care of with their own staycation, while you enjoy your time away.

Cathy's Pet and House Sitting includes being in your home the length of your time away, so your pets are never alone, especially overnight. They'll be loved, fed, played with, and let out on a regular basis, in their familiar setting.

Your home will be taken care of, too, to include plant watering, mail and package retrieval, and trash handling. Other services, such as yard clean-up, or pool maintenance, can be negotiated.

PM, or call 717-856-6411 today to secure a sitter for your pet today, as spring and summer dates go fast.

Traveling with your pet can sometimes be a hassle. Take away alot of the stress when on the road by staying in one of these "Pets Stay Free" places: Red Roof Inn, Motel 6, Aloft Hotels, Kimpton Hotels, and sometimes La Quinta.

Here's my own little girl at a Microtel, which charges $20.

With the brisk wind comes temperatures that feel even colder than the thermometers let on. Be sure to not leave your pets out too long, unless they're designed for this weather. Yeah, I see you, Huskies, Malamutes, and your double-coated friends.

Having said that, a fun romp in the snow does a doggie good, so have a good time while the snow lasts.

Happy New Year to everyone and their fur babies! Have a healthy and safe 2022!

12/19/2021

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season! Merry Christmas! Be sure to keep your pets safe and healthy, too, by not allowing them to play with ornaments or tinsel, or overfeeding them holiday goodies.

Since we're sure your fur babies have been good all year, Santa will probably bring them some good treats, toys, coats, sweaters, and beds. We know our little girl always wishes for a blingy collar. Such a diva!

See you in the New Year!

Birds are beautiful creatures, aren't they? Well, unless they're molting. Then they are reminiscent of a bowl of feathers delicately exploded by an M-80. Poor things!

Why do birds molt, though? Here's a great article explaining the process.

Cats and litter boxes.

The cat’s relationship with the litter box is more complex than many cat parents realize. We typically assume the litter box to be a place where a cat simply eliminates. It’s the place we want kitty’s p*e and poo to be exclusively deposited and as long as kitty follows the plan, everyone is ha...
