Every year at this time, even though warnings are posted in many places, and now here, please , please, please be aware of the heat and take the appropriate precautions to prevent heat stoke in your pets. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pet. Feel the pavement on which you walk your dog; if you can't keep your hand on it because it's too hot, don't walk your dog on it. Don't over exert with play and long walks; do bathroom duties, and go back inside. Go for walks in the early morning or late evening, when it's not quite as hot. Don't even for a minute leave your pet in a closed car. If your pet needs to be outside, be sure there is shade and water. Even so, at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, even shade and water is not enough to keep your pet cool enough. Heat like what is expected next week is DEADLY to people and pets.

Rutgers Wants Your Ticks...
Researchers from Rutgers will test ticks submitted by citizens for pathogens and parasites and create accessible tick distribution and infection maps so New Jersey residents can proactively limit tick bites. Knowing where and when different tick species are prevalent allows New Jerseyans to make informed decisions.

All specimens submitted will be added to a database that tracks tick distributions across New Jersey, including the incidence of over 15 tick-transmitted pathogens and parasites.

Within 48 hours of receiving the specimen, researchers will let submitters know the tick species, diseases associated with it and ways to reduce their risk of contracting a tick-borne disease.
