f Education. She started riding before she could walk and has show for 22 years now. Alice trains unbroke horses, trouble horses, and show horses of any discipline. She gives lessons, hosts shows and clinics. She is also a judge in 4 horse show/breed associations and judges around the country.

To remind lesson folks, Tuesday and Wednesday are looking great for lessons to start back up. Alice Barlow-Calhoun is currently leaving AZ and will not be available until Tuesday.

Alice Barlow-Calhoun will be attending a judging seminar in AZ this week and will be back in VA next Monday evening. Weather is looking better next week and we are planning on the lessons scheduled for next week to remain as scheduled. Stay warm until then!!!

The Effect of a Nervous Human.... one of my favorite studies!

Researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences looked at the effect of an increased heart rate in a human on the horse they were riding or handling.

Here's a link from the abstract... "Each horse–human pair walked or rode between points A and B (30 m) four times on each test occasion.

However, just before the fourth pass, participants were told that an umbrella⛱ would be opened as they rode, or led, the horse past the assistant.

The umbrella was not opened, so this pass was no different to the previous control occasions, but nevertheless there was an increase in HR for both the person AND the horse."

We affect our horses.

When looking at any training "issue", our first responsibility is to to know ourselves and explore if there's something we could do better.

All done filming for the December Cheery Acres Online Horse Show Series today!

Victoria Whitehead and Chipped N' Elegance (Ellie) are in 14 classes including Western for the very first time.

Cecilia Pastrone and Aries are in 5 Ranch classes.

Annie Wenger and Aries are in 4 Youth Western classes for the first time and 2 Trail classes.

Lisa Hoppe Lunson lunson is in 3 Green horse classes with Casino.
