20 March is Dogs in Yellow Day!

If you encounter a dog with a yellow ribbon, collar, lead, bandana, or vest, please be kind and recall your so they don’t approach the dog in yellow, either off lead or on a retractable lead. Please walk by giving the dog and owner some space.

Usually owners of dogs in yellow take great care and caution to keep their dogs safe from incidents that frighten them, including always keeping them on a lead, adjusting their routes or not leaving the house during busy “dog traffic” times and spending a lot of time on training. It can be a massive setback for a reactive or nervous dog’s growth and training if they are approached, even by a well-intentioned sniff or a “hello” bark. Every time another dog gets too close to a dog in yellow to the point they react out of fear, it might become another trauma that just adds to their struggles in life.

Dogs in yellow are still good dogs, they just need space from other dogs, usually because they have been attacked by dogs in the past or they are a rescue dog with a traumatic history, as well as other reasons like they have had surgery.

If you have a dog that wears yellow, a simple way to raise awareness is by posting a picture on social media and tagging it
