MAVERICK HERE! As my dad would say, Paws Off the Turkey!
Here are some Thanksgiving Tips for a Safe and Happy Holiday"🦃🐾

Thanksgiving is a time to share love and gratitude with friends, family, and fur babies alike! To keep the day pawsitively perfect for everyone—two-legged and four—follow these tips:

🐶 Secure the Door:
With guests coming and going, ensure your pet is kept away from the door to prevent accidental escapes. If your pet is uncrated, kindly remind visitors to be mindful when entering and leaving.

👶 Supervise Small Children:
Kids may not understand when pets need a break from all the holiday excitement. Watch interactions to make sure your pet has a chance to retreat if needed—and remind little ones that pet toys and their toys aren’t the same!

🦴 Beware of Table Scraps:
Keep an eye out for hazards like turkey bones (which can splinter) and toxic foods, including onions, chives, spinach, dough, and artificial sweeteners. Even small amounts can harm your furry friend.

Let’s make this Thanksgiving one to wag about while keeping everyone safe and happy! 🧡

NEVER FORGET.
9/11. It still hits me hard today. I was there - I saw the plane that hit the first tower as aI was driving to work. I called my wife-she was able to get news via Howard Stern, who was still in NYC and able to broadcast. At first, they thought it was a plane accident. But then, as you know, the acts of terror continued. Most tv signals were down, and phone lines were down, or overloaded and calls were not going thru. We lived in NJ then, about 45 minutes from the city. Then I got the call (I was working in law enforcement at the time) and my unit was on our way to assist in any way possible. As we helped the ambulances get to the overflow hospitals, the chaos I saw was unimaginable. People were disoriented, and desparately searching for loved ones. The hardest part was for every person asking me if I saw their loved one, and showing photos, I knew from what I was seeing that the outlook was grim at best. It was a day that hard to get out of my mind, and even today, I remember it all like it was yesterday. The one thing that shined thru was the AMERICAN SPIRIT. The coming together of every person from first responders to search and rescue dogs to the average citizen, to help each other make it thru the days that followed. The end of the Star Spangled Banner rang true that day, and has so much more meaning to me now: O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave

God bless and thank you to all first responders and people who serve our country, then and now.

HEAT ADVISORY FOR TOMORROW AND TUESDAY

Guest commentary from Maverick's bro, Tonka! Texas is done pre-heating y'all, and it's HOT out there! Bulldog owners know this but maybe new owners or people who find lost Frencies, English bulldogs, American bulldogs, Boston terriers, Boxers, Pugs, don't know that dogs with shorter snouts have breathing issues don't know. And bulldogs especially, LOVE to sunbath and love to go with our people everywhere, but we truly cannot take the heat. We heard of an acquaintance's dog who over heated at a ball game, and though they rushed him into cool water he did not survive. It is no joke my friends! So here are some tips and things to watch for:

If your dog’s temperature is 105 or over, you need to try and reduce your dog's temperature, but not lower than 103 degrees. Sponge your pup with cool water (not ice water), or use the hose. It is important to take his/her temperature again. If you can't reduce the temperature, take your dog to the vet. You may also want to take your dog to the vet even if you can reduce their temperature just to make sure everything is ok. Here are some warning signs:

Excessive panting
Staggering or not able to stand
Vomiting
Bloody stool
Unresponsive
Excessive drooling
Foaming at the mouth
Rapid heart rate
Dry nose
Gums very red
Seizures or tremors
Blood coming from the mouth
Coma

Thanks so much! and if you need someone to check on your pup or pack, contact my dad, Randy Pup Patrol Pet Services

MAVERICK HERE! Dad is busy doing walks for a few clients, and he asked me to share some tips regarding senior pets. Let's face it, old age happens to all of us, there is no escaping it. Here are some things to look for, and ways to keep your pet healthy and happy in their golden years!
* WATCH FOR SIGNS OF AGING: Sleeping more, not jumping up onto their favorite perch, cloudy eyes. Things that were once easy become harder as your pet ages. Make sure to schedule routine vet visits to make sure they are in good health. Your vet can give you advice on supplements and new emerging therapies to help your pet's mobility and longevity. My brothers Tonka and JoJo get Librela injections and go to see Dr. Torres at Back in Motion Veterinary Services to help them maintain their mobility.
*CHECK FOR LUMPS AND BUMPS - these are common in older pets. Again, always get anything suspicious checked by your vet, especially if the lump is hard, fast growing, or looks aggravated.
*CHANGE UP THE DIET - pets, much like people don't need as many calories as they age. Extra pounds make joints have to work overtime - so consider changing to a senior formulated diet.
*MOBILITY - some pets require a boost getting up - you can use a rolled up towel under their belly near the back end to make a sling and help assist them to stand.
*SLEEPING - trouble sleeping is not uncommon in senior pets. Melatonin before bedtime can help pets sleep through the night. Consult with your vet to see if that can help your pet and what the proper dose would be.
*JOINT PROBLEMS - keep your pet at a healthy weight, and making sure they have daily excercise. Just like arthritis in people, joints must remain lubricated to avoid befcoming stiff. Maintain muscle with regular walks, protein in their diet, and supplements such as Dasuquin and quality fish oils, and probiotics can help. Again, consult your vet to come up with the best plan.

My dad Randy is very experienced with senior pets. Several of my pack mates are seniors, and require special medicine, therapies, and care. If you are looking for a petsitter who can keep your senior pet comfortable and happy while you are away, please give him a call. If your pet needs a midday visit for excercise, meds or some extra TLC, we've got you covered, K9 to 5.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
Maverick here! We are days away from celebrating our great nation - there will be ice cream, bbq's, and of course, fireworks. While they are so exciting for people to watch, us pets find them to be very confusing and scary. THIS IS THE TIME WHERE MORE PETS GO MISSING THAN ANY OTHER TIME. Please, help keep us safe and not a statistic. Here's a few safety tips:

* WALK YOUR PET BEFORE FIREWORKS BEGIN
* KEEP PETS INSIDE DURING FIREWORKS
* CHECK GATES ARE SECURED AND FENCES FOR HOLES
* MICROCHIP YOUR PET. IF NOT MICROCHIPPED: YOU CAN PUT A PIECE OF TAPE ON THEIR COLLAR WITH YOUR PHONE NUMBER ON IT IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A TAG
* PLAY MUSIC TO KEEP YOUR PETS CALM
* TRY A THUNDERSHIRT. THEY DO WORK FOR ANXIETY
* IF YOU SEE A LOST PET, PLEASE BRING THEM INDOORS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE SO THEY DO NOT RUN FURTHER FROM HOME DURING FIREWORKS.

Thanks y'all! Have a safe 4th! OH YEAH! And, if your pup needs midday visits or walks to beat that boredom whike you are at work, or vacation petsitting while you are away, please keep Pup Patrol Pet Services in mind!

Anatomy of a bulldog.

Maverick here! It's the scariest time of the year for us pets - 4th of July. Don't get us wrong, we love our country! But we don't understand the terrifying booms in the sky - we don't always understand that the sky is not in fact falling. If you have a pet who gets scared, you can try a Thundershirt - you can find them on Chewy or Amazon. They are good for anxious pups & cats too! They work - my dad has used for some of our pack members. Check with your town to see when fireworks will be - some towns do them 7/3 or 7/4. Please DO NOT leave your pet outside during fireworks - they can panic and try to escape. Try keeping them in an interior room. My bros Coyote & Thor like to hang out in mom's closet during the festivities, while Tonka like to watch by the window. If your pup is really anxious, please contact your vet to see if there is something they recommend beyond these tips that can help keep them calm. And, if you need help walking your pet that day, call my dad! Randy of Pup Patrol Pet Services! he can make sure your pup gets a nice walk before dark.

Maverick here! Did you know a tired dog is a good dog? Does your pup get bored while you are away at work? Does your dog go bananas when you get home from a long day? How about a midday visit for a nice walk to work on leash manners and stretch those legs, or a romp in the backyard to play ball if you prefer. Pup Patrol Pet Services can check in on your dog and make sure they get some excercise to bust that boredom! MENTION CODE: MAVERICK and save 15% off your first midday visit!

Hey Y'all! Need a favor - please SHARE this post for us? A local gal, Katie and her husband found a starving, exhausted dog on the roadside. She jumped in their arms and licked them in thanks as they took her in but whoops! She was also pregnant! So now they have mom and the pups. Three were adopted, but 4 and mom still need homes of their own. This family did such a good thing, taking them in and letting her have her pups in safety! But now the pups are 8 weeks old & they need your help finding them homes. They've had their first round of shots and are healthy and happy go lucky! If you have room in your home and hearts for one more, please reach out! And, if you can't adopt, please if you could share this post? The family would be so grateful. DM us if interested and we can put you in touch with the family.

Maverick here! Mom and I had a little scare tonight while dad was out doing dinnertime visits. I got a little over excited over dinner tonight and actually gulped it WAY too fast and some of the wet kibbles got lodged in a ball in my throat. I couldn't get air, and I ran to mom kind of in a panic. She hit me on the back several times - didn't work. She lifted my back end. Didn't work. Then she did the doggo heimlich maneuver (See OPTION 2 BELOW) AND OUT IT POPPED. Whew! Momma is going to make sure to get me a gobble stopper bowl she says. I guess I just got so excited I hoovered my food and I forgot to chew. Thank goodness mama remembered her training! So please take a moment to print this image out if you should ever need it - and we hope you don't!
