Meet Daisy & Duke: The Laid-Back Duo Ready for a Forever Home!

Hi there, Daisy here! My brother Duke and I wanted to give you an update on how we’re doing—and let you know we’re looking for our forever family! Our foster family has been amazing, taking wonderful care of both of us, especially since Duke recently had surgery on his kneecap. He’s recovering like a champ! Thanks to his weekly underwater treadmill therapy (with a little peanut butter motivation on the lick mat), Duke is making strides and keeping his spirits high.

We’re a pretty laid-back pair who are happiest just hanging out with our humans, soaking up all the cuddles and snuggle time we can get. We’d love a home where we can kick back, relax, and be spoiled by a family who appreciates our sweet, easygoing nature. Meet Hershey! This 5-year-old chocolate Lab weighs about 70 lbs and is looking for a foster-to-adopt home. He’s dog-friendly (prefers female dogs), kid-friendly with children 6+ (only interacted with outside), and his experience with cats is unknown.

Hershey currently lives outside and isn’t house-trained yet. He’s shy and timid but ready to blossom in a loving home. Lab Rescue will cover his neuter and veterinary care once in the foster-to-adopt program.

What is a Snuggle, and Why I Like It?

Hi, I’m Gus, and I love to snuggle. For me, snuggling isn’t just about being close—it’s about feeling safe and happy with my favorite people.

At night, I curl up into a tight ball right between the pillows. It’s the best spot because I’m surrounded by warmth, and I feel like I belong right there. During the day, when it’s time to relax, I climb onto the couch and snuggle right in next to you. No matter how small the space is, I’ll make it work—I just want to be as close as possible.

Snuggling is my way of saying, “You’re my person, and I love being with you.” It’s my happy place, and I think it’s yours too!

Meet Cody! This handsome 6-year-old chocolate Lab weighs 96 lbs and is looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home. He’s currently in a shelter, and Lab Rescue cannot bring him into the program until a home is secured.

Cody is goofy, friendly, and loves people! He’s good with kids but needs a cat-free home. While he previously lived outside, he knows sit, speak, and is working on down. He’s even off-leash certified, though it’s unknown if he still remembers those skills.

Cody has high energy and would thrive with an active family ready to give him the love, training, and fun he deserves. He’s AKC registered and microchipped—ready for his next adventure!

Give the Gift of Second Chances: Black Dog Syndrome

There is a stigma associated with black dogs in shelters. Black Dog Syndrome is the reality that black dogs are harder to rehome and frequently passed over in favor of lighter-colored dogs when it comes to adoptions. Folklore and ancient mythology assigned negative characteristics to black dogs, which may have created the misnomer that all black dogs are aggressive. Aesthetically, black dogs may not have ideal “shelter presence,” as the lighting is often dim and the dog may be in the back of the kennel, experiencing the stress of the shelter environment. Black dogs can be challenging to photograph and usually don’t look as good in pictures compared to those with lighter coats, which are naturally more visible. We are drawn to dogs for many reasons, one being their face and expressions. Capturing these subtleties in a black dog can be challenging!

For all these reasons, adoption opportunities for black dogs are limited on critical online channels. Overall, black dogs are adopted from shelters and rescues less often than dogs with lighter-colored coats.
