What is "lump removal surgery"?

Lump removal refers to any procedure we perform to remove a mass. This includes both benign and cancerous masses as well as a variety of other lumpy bumps that pets may develop. Sometimes if small enough the "lump" can be removed under sedation, but often it involves full anesthesia.

Normally we request surgery patients come to the clinic between 9:00 am and 9:15 am. Patients can typically go home around 4:30 pm unless other arrangements are made prior to surgery, or unless the pet needs a little extra time to fully wake from surgery.

We request all surgery patients skip breakfast and have all food pulled up at 10pm the night before, water is okay until they come in for surgery.

We recommend pre-anesthetic bloodwork on geriatric patients to check liver and kidney function but do not require it.

Sometimes we will recommend a mass be sent to a pathologist for identification, other times we think removal is sufficient.

Anxiety is a common canine issue, but one that can usually be managed.

With our busy lives, including flexible work schedules, we need to be aware of how our dogs are responding. Here are some things to consider if you think your dog may have anxiety.

We understand that it can be difficult to get to the vet during working hours and sometimes that means someone else will be bringing your furry friend to the vet. We ask that in those times you either send a list of concerns with your pet, make sure the chaperone knows them, or be available by phone so we can contact you with questions or concerns. We cannot text so expect a phone call and please make sure your voicemail is set up and your mailbox is not full.

For most issues payment is expected at pick up. If someone else is going to pick your pet up please make arrangements to pay over the phone, pre-pay, or send a check or cash with whoever is picking up your pet.

If you are going on vacation and someone is watching your pets please either make sure you are available to make necessary decisions or that you have some documentation that another person is able to make those decisions. Please also have some way for your pet sitter to pay for your pet's care during your absence.

Angel wing is a condition where flight feathers at the end of the bird's wings twist upwards. Leptospirosis can cause severe illness and death, is transmissible to people, and it is found in our area. This why we consider leptospirosis to be a core vaccine for most of our canine patients.

Protect your pet against leptospirosis by learning about clinical signs, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
