This sweet boy was just brought in to us by a citizen, he was found behind walmart in Spirit Lake! If you or anyone you know recognizes him please contact the shelter!

PLEASE NOTE: proof of ownership as well as current rabies and distemper vaccinations are required to claim an impounded animal. Iowa State law dictates that HSNWIA legally cannot release the animal until this is resolved. If this is the case, we will get that done prior to release at the owner's expense. IF the animal is not claimed after 7 days, HSNWIA assumes ownership of the animal. Until they are completely vetted, that animal is NOT available for adoption or visits*

🚨 TNR Weekend Reminder! 🚨

This weekend we’ll be trapping feral and community cats to have them spayed or neutered, then returning them to where they were found.

We have several approved trapping spots, but if you’ve told us about an area that needs cats fixed, please email or call us ASAP so we can get it on our list.

Together, we can help control the cat population and give these kitties healthier lives. 🐾

Trap-Neuter-Return Program for Community Cats
Within City Limits Only

What is TNR?
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective method to manage the population of free-roaming and feral cats. Cats are:

Trapped using safe, humane equipment
Neutered/Spayed and vaccinated
Ear-tipped for identification
Returned to their original location
This process helps reduce nuisance behaviors, prevents overpopulation, and improves the lives of community cats.

Program Guidelines
✅ City Limits Only – This program is for cats residing within Dickinson County city limit boundaries.
✅ Community Awareness – Neighbors are asked to keep pet cats indoors during trapping.
✅ Colony Caregivers – Returned cats must be monitored and provided with food, water, and shelter.
