Ever wonder why our dog adoption fees are around $350? That fee doesn't even cover what it costs us to prepare each dog for their forever home.

Between spay or neuter surgery ($380–$460), vaccines, flea and tick prevention, food, and daily care from our dedicated staff, each dog costs significantly more than their adoption fee.

We rely on donations and community support to bridge the gap. When you adopt, you're not just giving a dog a home, you're helping us help the next one too.

Happy National Kitten Day from all of us at the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa!

Today is all about celebrating our tiniest purr machines. From playful pounces to sleepy snuggles, our shelter is full of kittens ready to steal your heart, and maybe your shoelaces too.

We’ve got a whole crew of adorable, adoptable kittens waiting to meet their forever families. If you’ve been thinking about adding a little fluff to your life, now’s the purrfect time.

Not quite ready to adopt? That’s okay. We’re always looking for kind-hearted volunteers to help with cuddles, cleaning, and care. A few hours of your time can make a world of difference for these little ones.

And a quick meow for help- we’re in need of kitten food to keep our fur babies happy and healthy. Donations are welcome and so appreciated.

We're inviting all Parks Marina Boat Customers to our Props, Paws & Poker Run on July 19th! We're teaming up with Humane Society of Northwest Iowa .nw.ia for this charity event. Here are the details ➡️➡️

♠️$20 per hand! Buy hands at Parks Marina from 9-10 AM, hang out with the pups in the morning at the Humane Society meet & greet, and enter to win some additional raffes

🎆 Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for our pets. As we celebrate this week, let’s not forget our furry friends who rely on us to keep them safe and calm.

More pets go missing around the Fourth of July than any other time of year. Loud noises, flashing lights and unfamiliar smells can cause stress, anxiety and even panic in both dogs and cats.

Take steps now to prepare your pets:
🐾 Keep them indoors with the TV or a fan running to help muffle sound
🐾 Make sure their collars and microchips have current contact info
🐾 Talk to your vet about calming options if your pet is especially anxious
