Kitten Holler, Rural WV TNR

Kitten Holler, Rural WV TNR Kitten Holler is an informal cat and kitten rescue based in Mill Creek, WV. It is run by Abby Hohn with the help of community members.

Kitten Holler specializes in trap-neuter/spay-return and getting kittens off the street, socialized, and adopted. Kitten Holler is an extremely nonprofitable service. We cannot function as a shelter, so we do not accept animals. However, we will trap community (stray) cats and return them once they’ve been neutered/spayed. When we have room, we do foster kittens who have nowhere else to go. We als

o help community members find affordable vet care and help get cats to their appointments. We are able to function thanks to donations, so please consider donating. Donation information will be updated soon.

“Nadja!? Where are you? Nadjaaa…Naadjaaa…Oh, there you are!”

Nadja might hide in the couch, but she comes when called. Then she poses pretty and wonders what sort of treat she’s about to receive. Not bad for a formally feral feline.

And note that Nadja and her pals are not to be blamed for damaging the couch. Ingress was provided by the masterful couch renovation of Abby’s cats Hopper and Bumblebee.

Nadja and her siblings are available for adoption. They are neutered, current on vaccines, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and receive regular flea preventatives. Gizmo and Bat! appear in the second picture. Email or message our page to request an adoption application.

We’re overdue for a Skittles update! Our pretty girl is healing well after her full mouth extraction. She has a follow up with the vet later this month, so we’ll have more information then. For the time being, the surgery appears to be a success, but her gums and tongue still have a lot of healing to do. We can say, she is already better able to groom herself and is drooling less, though she still drools more than most cats. Skittles will also continue to receive monthly Solensia injections. While Solensia was designed and marketed to treat arthritis, it has shown a lot of promise as a therapy for cats with stomatitis like Skittles.

Thank you to all of Skittles’s supporters who helped make this treatment possible!

Sherlock accidentally rolled off the top of the couch. Not only is this how he landed, but the position he opted to maintain for the next 10 minutes. 😹😹😹 Cats.

Sherlock is available for adoption, so he could bring endless laughter to your home! He is neutered, current on vaccines, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and is on flea preventatives. He does well with the other cats, including the senior resident of his foster home. He loves people and seeks out a lot of lap time (or just falls into it).

Skittles is home! Her full mouth extraction went smoothly. She is pretty stoned, but that’s not a bad thing considering the amount of teeth she had pulled. She cleaned her dinner plate and is rolling around for cuddles.

Skittles was dropped off this morning for her full mouth extraction. She’s probably having the dental work done as we type. We’ll update everyone once we pick her up this evening.

Thank you to everyone who donated to help make this procedure possible!

I don’t know what it is about Sherlock, but he’s making me feel like I have real lowbrow taste in literature. Sheesh. 😹😹😹

We’re actually super proud of this teenage boy finally being able to settle in for lengthy cuddles without harassing his human. (If you know orange cats, you know what we’re talking about.)

Sherlock is an amazingly affectionate boy. He’s also a bit of a pig, an eency-weency bit of a klutz, and he might just be a book snob 🤷‍♀️. Sherlock is also still awaiting his forever home. 🥺 If you think that home might be yours, message our page or email [email protected] to request an adoption application.

Sweet girl Skittles update: as followers may remember Skittles was diagnosed with Stomatitis. A little over a month ago we decided to attempt a hypoallergenic diet to rule out the possibility of allergy leading to her symptoms. Unfortunately, we did not see improvement with the dietary change, so are swiftly moving forward with our original treatment plan: a full mouth extraction. Skittles’s dental surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday, May 29.

This procedure is quite expensive, but offers the best opportunity for Skittles to lead a normal, comfortable life. Thanks to your support, we have raised $650 for the procedure, but it is estimated to cost about $850-950. Any last minute donations would be so greatly appreciated. Any amount truly helps. Donations can be made online at www.PayPal.me/kittenholler

Thank you for all of your support and please keep Skitty Kitty in your thoughts this Wednesday.

Not sure who needs to see Nadja’s smoldering look tonight, but here it is!

Nadja has been one of our shyest fosters. She came in as a very scared feral kitten and has slowly slowly, but surely learned to trust humans. Recently she has really opened up to her foster human. She still startles at loud noises, but she loves to flop over for belly rubs and chirps for treats. Nadja needs a patient, caring person who will allow her plenty of time to adjust to her forever home. She has a silky coat and adores back scratches. Dinner time is another favorite of hers 😹, so she’s highly susceptible to bribes of the edible kind.

If you’d like to learn more about Nadja or request an adoption application, please message our page or email [email protected]

Gizmo is up to his old tricks again. Stealing plushy blankets and rolling himself into an adorable purrito. Who wouldn’t want that in their life? Yet somehow Gizmo still hasn’t had an application.

Gizmo is about 9 months old, utd on vaccines, neutered, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and has been on consistent flea preventatives and dewormers.

Please share to help this sweet young kitty find a home. If you’d like to adopt, message our page to ask for an adoption application.

*Crickets*
We know our page has been pretty silent lately. Generally, that’s a sign a lot has been going on, which holds true this time. We still have plenty of fosters to care for. Meanwhile their foster momma has taken on several bottle babies for a shelter, the last batch of which lost their mom and 2 siblings to panleukopenia (Don’t worry: full quarantine precautions are in place and the panleuk kittens are thriving a week into care). Oh, and just before their arrival, we TNR’ed 11 cats thanks to SNIP WV’s Free Feral Days.

The biggest news is that Skittles’s Full Mouth Extraction has been rescheduled for the end of this month. More complete updates will be coming. In the meantime, please enjoy these sleeping kitty pictures, since sleep is something we haven’t had much of recently.

Story time is a little more crowded with Wolfgang and Skittles sharing a room. Wolfgang has done surprisingly well with his new roommate. They are separated much of the day to accommodate Skittles’s dietary restrictions and Wolfgang’s history of picking on other cats.

We were pleasantly surprised with how Wolfgang and Skittles have adjusted to sharing space. He hasn’t been a perfect gentleman (He sometimes sits on Skittles). But she hasn’t been the perfect lady (She bogarts foster mom’s lap).

Wolfgang would still do best in a single cat household, because he is picky about his feline companions. However, we do know he tolerates cats with complementary personalities. Basically, he is fine if the other cat isn’t that interested in him.

Wolfgang is still available for adoption, so message our page if you are interested in adopting him or have any questions.

Skittles is not yet available for adoption while we work on resolving her medical issues.

Skittles update: we had a last minute change of plans for Skittles’s treatment all within the last 48 hours. I spoke with a fantastic veterinary diagnostician, who educated me on food allergies leading to Stomatitis. Parallels in Skittles’s history and other cats treated by this veterinarian suggested that a food allergy rather than enamel might be the cause of Skittles’s lesions.

Basically, that left me two choices:
1. go through with the full mouth extraction and then, if there is no significant relief, try a hypoallergenic diet.
2. Try a hypoallergenic diet and then, if there is no significant relief, go through with the full mouth extraction.

This was not a simple decision. I know Skittles’s condition is painful, so the last thing I want to do is prolong that discomfort. However, the surgical option is irrevocable, whereas a change in diet has no lasting effects.

When I say this was not a simple decision, I actual mean this was one of the toughest calls I’ve had to make in deciding how to proceed with an animal’s care. That being said, I decided to attempt a hypoallergenic diet first. Skittles will be on a hypoallergenic prescription diet for 6 weeks. If she is not showing significant improvement at the end of that time, we will proceed with the full mouth extraction.

I want her to be as comfortable as possible, so she did visit the vet today. Instead of surgery, she got another Solensia injection, which should reduce pain and inflammation for several weeks.

We will keep everyone posted. The diet change might or might not work, but I know I would regret it more if we had proceeded with a surgery that ended up not providing the relief we want to see, instead of trying a less invasive option first.
