Do you know me? I was found on Grafton St. on the Worcester/Shrewsbury line 6/27. The name they gave me at WARL is Sebastian. I was wearing a Electronic collar (no id tags) and I am microchipped. 1-4-24 UPDATE: Shadow, missing from a hiking trail on Mount Wachusett, is safe and on her way to the vet. A huge thank you to the greater community and the DCR staff for their help and support. Upon sighting this morning, she was allowed to gather herself for a moment and ran to one of her owners. Thank you MDM Vol Deb J B for all your guidance !

This week we found out the devastating news that one of our amazing grooming pups passed away unexpectedly. She was playing in her yard and ate a poisonous mushroom and died within 3 hours.

While Tufts Emergency Veterinary Hospital is a wonderful place, they were not able to care for this very sick pup. The owners did not know where else to go so they drove all the way to Ocean State Emergency Veterinary Specialists in RI and by that time it was too late. She sadly passed within ten minutes of walking in the door. These owners acted fast and did everything right and it still happened too fast for them to get the help she needed.

By sharing this very sad story, we hope to raise awareness about two very important tips that every pet owner should be aware of:

1. With all of the rain we have been getting, there are mushrooms everywhere right now. The Vet said this is the worst mushroom outbreak they have seen in years and 4 dogs were seen earlier that day for the same thing. So please be mindful if you have mushrooms in your yard and also keep an eye out when you walk your dog.

2. There are closer places to get your dog Emergency Care in Central Massachusetts than driving to RI that we want more people to know about.

The Veterinary Emergency Group is right in Shrewsbury, MA.

They are open 24/7, you do not need to call ahead, and it is about 15 minutes away from Tufts.

If you are not from central Massachusetts, we encourage you to find the two closest emergency veterinary clinics and save the contact information in case you ever need it.
