Zuko, our oldest & largest goat is doing his part for the fall clean up here at The Capra Farm Goat Rescue. He is rather mild mannered, for a goat, and likes to eat without fighting. When he's topping 200 pounds, we agree!
Bandit is an Alpine mix and is a re-homed goats from one of our neighbors. He wasn’t very social to us at first, but handfuls of sunflowers seeds brought him around. When you enter the pen nowadays, he’s one of the Official Greeters. If you’re not bringing snacks, he’ll still take a petting.
Balder is one of two Nubians bought from JDF Acres. They were Michelle Yourth birthday present this year. A month ago, Balder got into a fight with a hog fence and broke his leg in two places. The first cast he had was one with pins in it to keep his leg in place. The new cast, which he got last week, stays on for 2 weeks as he finishes healing. Balder is confined to a smaller pen in the barn as well as a small pen we constructed outside for him outside so he can still graze and get some sunshine.
As I was running chores in the ATV he was complaining loudly. So I pulled over so he could have his first driving lesson.
Nemo was originally named, along with his siblings, after Pixar characters since their mother was named Dory. As he got older and bigger and still wanted to be a lap goat, we extended his name to “Nemo Pettin”. He is the middle child and thus, needs the most attention. It doesn’t matter that they were all born within 30 minutes of each other.
Arwen & Eowyn. Protectors of the Realm.
Arwen & Eowyn are our two Great Pyrenees that we got from Wakatomica Creek Farm. These sisters are a bonded pair and completely inseparable. They spend their days joyously barking at everything and chewing on each other. Even when they are running at full speed across a field they try to bite and trip each other. As the protectors of the herd, they are named after two strong female warriors from the Lord of the Rings.
Goat Advent Calendar
"Hey guys, Uber Eats is here! Who's got money?"
Appa, the leader of the herd. He is a LaMancha and yes his ears are supposed to look like that. Appa weighs about 165 pounds putting him in our top 5 Big Goats. He has yet to meet a snack or food he doesn't like.
We are starting our Goat Advent Calendar with a double feature!
To start with we have Zuko. Zuko is a Toggenburg and is our second largest goat weighing in at 205 pounds. In this video, from April 2021, we were bringing him home from New Bolton. We stopped by Panera bread for lunch and got Zuko a fruit salad and a garden salad. While in the parking lot feeding him, two different people asked if they could have a picture with him. We were also asked "Why do you have a goat in your minivan?" I shrugged "It's Pennsylvania, is it really that surprising?"
