What a girl! Kangaroo is adeptly named for her bouncy habits, and energy levels. She is all teef, hops and energy - exactly what you would expect from a ~7 month old pittie mix pup. Roo loves everyone and everything too, she’s such a happy girl! She’s going to learn foundational obedience & work reeeaaaalllly hard on keep all four paws on the ground!

The One Thing I Wish All Clients Knew Before Coming to Me:

The leash is a fundamental part of starting your dog training journey, and it can be an amazing tool to help manage your dog. I’m not just talking about using your leash to walk your dog, or using a long line for a sniffy decompression walk.

Yes - I mean using your leash in the house!

It’s a very simple answer to preventing many problems, but is often overlooked in the home environment. Think about it for a moment, the leash usually means one thing - walkies! This is often is why we see so many of our dogs go bananas the moment the leash leaves it’s hook! Starting to use the leash in the house can be a good stepping stone for beginning to manage overexcitements on walks, and much more.

Inside of our homes, a leash provides physical control over your dog, allowing you to guide their movements, prevent undesirable behaviors, or accidents. We are able to use the leash to prevent our dog from jumping on our guests when they enter our house, or lead them to an appropriate resting spot while the family eats dinner.

This practice also sets the stage for proper behavior outside the house by reinforcing

obedience and good manners in all areas of your dog's life. So, don't underestimate the power of the leash inside your home—it's a simple yet effective way to kickstart your dog training journey.

Luke & I had a wonderful solo outing today at Kinder Farm Park!

This park was established on an old farm and still houses farm animals that are available to be viewed by the public. The miles of trails allow you to loop around the critter pens and yards, where you’ll likely encounter heavy foot traffic or explore the trails into nature for a more relaxed experience.

At 10 years old Luke still enjoys a challenging environment such as this! We get started with obedience drills in the parking lot to set our expectations for the walk. He is a naturally a curious and confident dog, and was once easily over excitable! However, over the years we have worked heavily on creating and maintaining neutrality by reinforcing the same expectations in new situations. There are a million different situations you can find yourself in with your dog! To be successful together we have to show and teach our dogs how to behave - dog training lasts your entire dog’s life!

This is Diane! She’s a hound mix that is currently participating in private lessons to build confidence & manage reactivity. We have started a right sided heel, and a place behavior - both of which she is making strides with!

One of the key factors we need to take into consideration during training (and life) is how we talk to our dogs. Using appropriate language like a marker system creates a clear form of communication between you and your dog. Using this method as a stepping stone, we can begin to ease confusion and uncertainty within our pup’s life!
