Some of these dogs are on stray hold, meaning they will be held for a total of 3 days to give the owner an opportunity to claim their dog. After this three day hold the dog will go up for adoption. Every dog in Athens County MUST have an Athens County Dog License per the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 955. If your dog is found without a license a penalty or citation may be given. You can purchase licenses at The Athens County Dog Shelter or The Athens County Auditor's Office. This page is NOT for dog related issues.
