We are currently hiring for a veterinary assistant.

The veterinary assistant begins the examination procedure and continues to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by assisting them with technical work and administrative details. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous On-The-Job Training desirable
• Minimum of 18 years old.
• Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
• Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
• Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
• Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
• Has excellent client communication skills.
• Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.
• Willing to help others in different locations if the need arises

We are hiring for a full time kennel aid.

The Kennel Aid provides care and the basic needs of animals that are being admitted to Ferstl Veterinary Hospital including cleaning of cages, runs and ward areas, laundry, walking,
and proper feeding. The kennel assistant operates under the supervision of the Kennel Manager and Practice Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY
• Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness,
disease and discontent.
• Handle animals as required and restrain animals.
• Provide care for animals admitted to the Hospital. Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to animal health technicians/veterinarians.
• Apply knowledge of normal food and liquid requirements of animals. As required, provide special food and liquids.
• Discharge and admit animals at the request of receptionists, practitioners and technicians. Ensure that animals are clean and fresh smelling prior to discharge.
• Obtain stool and urine samples as assigned.
• Ensure that cages and animals are properly numbered and identified and that personal property (toys, treats, blankets, leashes) are stored in the proper area and identified.
• Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, runs and stalls as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas
of the hospital to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
• Launder and dry towels and blankets.
• Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material. Empty trash.
• Record information such as feeding schedules, appearance, behavior of animals that are hospitalized.
• Maintain hospitalized areas thru proper stocking and cleaning.
• Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors and the practice philosophy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The receptionist answers telephones, greets clients, prepares patient files and escorts clients and patients to exam rooms when needed, receives and relays client correspondence, updates client financial records. The exceptional receptionist has the ability to diffuse negative client situations and foster client bonding.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be over 18 years of age
• Customer Service background required.
• Previous Reception background required.
• Computer knowledge required; comfortable with Word, keyboarding, and use of communication tools such as Instant Messenger and email.
• Significant experience with basic office functions in a busy office environment.
• Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
• Quickly learn how to pronounce, know the meaning of and spell commonly used veterinary terms.

As of January 1, 2024, we no longer offer payment plans and services will be required to be paid for in full at the time of service.

Many contracts that are signed are not paid due to:
• Clients claiming they did not authorize the payment even though we have their signed permission along with a copy of their ID
• clients cancelling their card
• clients blocking us from pulling the agreed upon amount that was signed in the contract
In addition, these clients reneging on their promises or contracts:
• increases costs associated with charging a card only for it to be declined.
• Increases cost for our staff to write out a payment contract
• Increases loss of time our staff has to address waiting clients and phones
• Increases the wait time for all other clients because of the amount of time we have to spend defending the contract the delinquent client refuses to pay

90% of these contracts are for first time clients, referrals, and/or c-section animals. Due to these people breaking their contracts and their word, and costing not only the business money and time but our regular clients their valuable time waiting in the lobby while we write up a contract payment arrangement, all services are required to be paid in full at the time of service.

Our not having to deal with delinquent clients will help to decrease the wait time for all other clients. It will give us more time to spend on treating our clients’ animals and addressing our client’s needs.
We accept all major credit cards as a form of payment as well as cash, and care credit.

Please note:

This does not affect our three generation/second generation clients, or clients who have consistently used our services for three years or more. We are still willing to work with you in emergency situations. We heartfeltly thank you for your continued business and continued support. We very much appreciate you.
