We are up to 5 mascovies on eggs. I bought 6 mascovy eggs off eBay. If all goes well they will go under a broody momma or try to hatch them myself. Depending on what hatches those will be the hens we keep. All 5 geese are healthy and doing amazing. Not too bad for the first time. 5 incubators full of chicken eggs minus the 6 mascovy eggs. The new cream legbars are looking amazing. I might try to find another eBay egg vendor for unrelated eggs. I still have a few more days to go on leg horns. I have dark egg cooper Marens coming. So hopefully my newest projects of pure and hybrid eggs can start. We are doing away with Old English Game bantam simply because they are too common. Instead we are switching those to Cubalayan Bantam. I am also thinking we may decide to do away with the silver spangle Spitzhaubin and just stick to my Chamois and Golden. However I am not sure what rare breed I want instead.

For this year we are sticking to our usual rare breeds and our mascovy. However I have adopted a flock of mixed chicken that lay a rainbow of colors. I have also added sebastopol eggs in the incubator. If all goes well I may have a beautiful breeding pair. However maturity can take up to two years. My goal in the next two years is replacing the barn flock of rainbow layers with pure bred Ameraucana as the base for our new rainbow egg layer chicks. Offering pure bred Ameraucanas as well as olive eggers. The brown hens to get olive would be Barnevelder and Salmon Faverolle. I am also looking at getting a few leg horns to breed with my Sumatras for moonbeam chicks.

We are sticking with what is working for us. All game chicken breeds except Spitzhaubin. With the predator increase in Upstate NY we need chickens that can defend themselves. I am working on an EE that mostly game bird. Again predators. Our game bird standard breed is the Sumatra. Our bantam game birds are old English and Cubanlayan. The Spitzhaubin while not a game bird, are actually very predator aware. Spitzhaubin are one chicken breed from Medieval Europe that was not bred to c**k fight. Our mixed bantam EE might also have a Silky mixed in as they make excellent brooders.

First batch in the incubator. Not sure what if anything will hatch. This really is a gamble. Most are coming from the 5 new hens and I got no idea what their rooster was or if they are still fertilized. I also don't know whether they have accepted our rooster yet. Plus a couple Sumatra eggs thrown in I believe. Who knows what if anything will come

Fruit muffin
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Combine 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 Teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon baking powder. Cut in or rub in 1/4 cup softened butter. Then combine 1 cup sour cream and 2 eggs. Quickly stir in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Fold in 2 cups of berries (blueberry, raspberry, blackberries, etc) (can also use any chopped fruit like apples, peaches, etc). Fill in a muffin the pans. These make 18 muffins. Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup blue cornmeal (yellow will work as a substitute), 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 Teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon baking powder. Then combine 1 cup of buttermilk, 1/4 tallow, and 2 eggs. Quickly stir in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Fill in a muffin the pans. These make 12 muffins. Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.

Then combine 1 cup buttermilk and 2 eggs. Quickly stir in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Fold in a bag of chocolate chip. Fill in a muffin the pans. These make 18 muffins. Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.
