Momma came outside today and showed off all her babies. Not thinking these actually belong to this momma due to their coloring. However she is quite a happy momma now that she kidnapped all these ducklings.

Well we sold Bleeding Hearts and two Spitzhauben hens. It felt right to do so. I have 5 hatched Chamois Spitzhauben from him, and I am adding fresh Golden Spangle Spitzhauben from Cackle. Hoping I get two roosters a chamois and a golden Spangle that will grow up as "brothers", but not related. I sold my turkey family, and have an order for 5 broadbrested turkey, 5 silver Spangled, and 5 silkies. I was never a silky fan, however my youngest is. I picked him up a hen a few weeks ago, but my chickens never accepted her. So I thought at least the chicks could grow up to love her, but she is so lonely. Today I got the opportunity to pick up a beautiful black silkie Rooster (well that's a guess until he crow or lays an egg). Now Eugene has the beginning of his silkie flock. Yes I got him a small coop and run for his chicken family. He also loves his Old English Game Bantam and D'uccles.

Haven't been great at posting updates. We have added silky and D'uccles to our bantam program. It will be next year before we will have any eggs. Of course we will have our old English game bantam. We have 4 teenagers to add to our flock, plus two more little females are growing strong. So that will give me 8. Much greater chance of having eggs than just 2 hens. Of course our full grown breeds are the Sumatras and the Spitzhaubens.

Miracle happen. This baby came from a nest of two of the missing hens. Not sure how it survived, maybe this heat wave. I am guessing hen due to brown color. Eugene is quite happy to baby this orphan.

2 cups of violets and 2 cups of dandelion jelly. 2 hours work for me and Eugene. Now steep about 2 hours on the counter in 2 cups of hot water, and 24 hours in the fridge. For the tea needed for the jelly.

So we are switching from raising pyncheon to D'uccles. The main reason is the hatchery to get pyncheon from sell pet quality and have zero care for shipped birds. I am selling off all my chicks to other local breeders.

We have rainbow chicken orbs. Message me if interested. Hatching and eating orbs available. If that is not enough of a hint we are selling egg cartons "full". I will be freeing up the incubators at the end of this month if interested in barn yard mix chicken that may lay pretty eggs.

Pyncheon bantam are here. Only 2 didn't make the trip. All seem really healthy except for one. I'm hoping with save a chick in water in water and poultry cell that even that one might thrive. Poor baby chicks were snuggling there water dish because I filled it with warm water when they got here.

Miracle of all miracles my 30 pyncheon chicks are in Rochester. Hopefully they are all healthy when I pick them up tomorrow from our local post office.

So normally I am easy to contact. However starting tomorrow, I will be extremely busy. Wed my car needs work, Thursday I am my poll working for early voting 9am till 1pm and then karate (4 hours only), Friday working in Odessa as usual, Saturday the same, Sunday in Buffalo for Easter, Monday I will be home till karate for the boys (best day to reach me), Tuesday poll working for primary that already been decided (5:15am-9pm and I am completely unavailable), Wed work in Odessa, Thursday just karate for boys, Friday and Saturday usually schedule at Odessa, and the equinox on Monday and except for karate I won't travel. Hopefully after all that I will be available to finally fill all the baby chick orders. Sorry for any delays.

Eugene loves his Old English Game Bantam

So I was candling my incubating eggs. I have 2 incubators that hold 12, and (soon to be 2) that hold 22. I was trying to free up one incubator for an order of Old English Game Bantam. I have 4 in the incubators now, but I wanted to incubate the 6 bantam eggs I had collected this week. One incubator just hatched most of it eggs (5 hadn't hatched and I need to see if dead or viable). After candling 4 were still viable. I decided to add them to my 22 egg incubator. I candle all eggs too make sure all were still viable to hatch by the weekend since all were good, but it had room for the 4 unhatched eggs I tucked them in and marked them. While doing so I dropped this egg. After candling the egg after being dropped the chick seemed fine. So I poured melted wax on it and stuck it back inside the incubator. If somehow this chick hatches, it name will be Miracle. If it is a hen I am keeping it, and if it's a rooster I will make sure he has a forever home.

My oldest is delivering a rooster to our neighbor.

My son took this video of our Sumatra rooster crowing. His crow is extremely quiet as far as roosters go. He also rarely crows. Even the Sumatra hens rarely even chatter amongst themselves. #sumatrachicken #bluesamatra
