We are sticking with what is working for us. All game chicken breeds except Spitzhaubin. With the predator increase in Upstate NY we need chickens that can defend themselves. I am working on an EE that mostly game bird. Again predators. Our game bird standard breed is the Sumatra. Our bantam game birds are old English and Cubanlayan. The Spitzhaubin while not a game bird, are actually very predator aware. Spitzhaubin are one chicken breed from Medieval Europe that was not bred to c**k fight. Our mixed bantam EE might also have a Silky mixed in as they make excellent brooders.

First batch in the incubator. Not sure what if anything will hatch. This really is a gamble. Most are coming from the 5 new hens and I got no idea what their rooster was or if they are still fertilized. I also don't know whether they have accepted our rooster yet. Plus a couple Sumatra eggs thrown in I believe. Who knows what if anything will come

Fruit muffin
Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Combine 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 Teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon baking powder. Cut in or rub in 1/4 cup softened butter. Then combine 1 cup sour cream and 2 eggs. Quickly stir in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Fold in 2 cups of berries (blueberry, raspberry, blackberries, etc) (can also use any chopped fruit like apples, peaches, etc). Fill in a muffin the pans. These make 18 muffins. Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup blue cornmeal (yellow will work as a substitute), 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 Teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon baking powder. Then combine 1 cup of buttermilk, 1/4 tallow, and 2 eggs. Quickly stir in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Fill in a muffin the pans. These make 12 muffins. Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.

Just before putting the muffin in the oven drop the temperature to 400 degrees. Bake for just 20 minutes.

Well we sold Bleeding Hearts and two Spitzhauben hens. It felt right to do so. I have 5 hatched Chamois Spitzhauben from him, and I am adding fresh Golden Spangle Spitzhauben from Cackle. Hoping I get two roosters a chamois and a golden Spangle that will grow up as "brothers", but not related. I sold my turkey family, and have an order for 5 broadbrested turkey, 5 silver Spangled, and 5 silkies. I was never a silky fan, however my youngest is. I picked him up a hen a few weeks ago, but my chickens never accepted her. So I thought at least the chicks could grow up to love her, but she is so lonely. Today I got the opportunity to pick up a beautiful black silkie Rooster (well that's a guess until he crow or lays an egg). Now Eugene has the beginning of his silkie flock. Yes I got him a small coop and run for his chicken family. He also loves his Old English Game Bantam and D'uccles.

Haven't been great at posting updates. We have added silky and D'uccles to our bantam program. It will be next year before we will have any eggs. Of course we will have our old English game bantam. We have 4 teenagers to add to our flock, plus two more little females are growing strong. So that will give me 8. Much greater chance of having eggs than just 2 hens. Of course our full grown breeds are the Sumatras and the Spitzhaubens.

So we are switching from raising pyncheon to D'uccles. The main reason is the hatchery to get pyncheon from sell pet quality and have zero care for shipped birds. I am selling off all my chicks to other local breeders.

We have rainbow chicken orbs. Message me if interested. Hatching and eating orbs available. If that is not enough of a hint we are selling egg cartons "full". I will be freeing up the incubators at the end of this month if interested in barn yard mix chicken that may lay pretty eggs.

Pyncheon bantam are here. Only 2 didn't make the trip. All seem really healthy except for one. I'm hoping with save a chick in water in water and poultry cell that even that one might thrive. Poor baby chicks were snuggling there water dish because I filled it with warm water when they got here.

Miracle of all miracles my 30 pyncheon chicks are in Rochester. Hopefully they are all healthy when I pick them up tomorrow from our local post office.

My oldest is delivering a rooster to our neighbor.

My son took this video of our Sumatra rooster crowing. His crow is extremely quiet as far as roosters go. He also rarely crows. Even the Sumatra hens rarely even chatter amongst themselves. #sumatrachicken #bluesamatra
