Happy Birthday Cady!

The girls were not so happy with me today, but I took advantage of the warmer weather. Was able to get some maintenance done and Vivaldi boards put on for winter feeding. 🐝 🐝 🐝

We started our venture into bee keeping a few years back when we lived on the farm in Snow Hill. After moving the bees to Millsboro they all absconded our first winter here. We were lucky enough to get new bees from a local Delaware college in the spring of 2022 and the colonies are doing great! Our goal from the start was to do everything naturally/organically. We are extremely proud of the product that has taken us so long to achieve (with a lot of help from the 🐝 🐝 🐝 )!

I’ve been taking their eggs all season, but they insist! So I let them have their way. I’ve even been taking the babies as they hatch, but I’m letting her keep this one. There is a black mottled hen up in the nest box that this chick jumped out of for the lavender mottled hen to adopt. **video in comments**

And just like that, spring hatching is done! The incubator is empty! These 16 Blue Palm Poults were the last to hatch. Half of these will be available, I’ll list in a seperate post. I will only hatch with paid orders on the breeds I still have laying. I will list that in a seperate post along with the rest of the brooder clean out available grow-outs. I’m picking up six additional states with my job, so there isn’t the time for growing anything out anymore (or at least until I retire).

FREE EGGS! Unwashed fresh eggs for eating. I’ve been out of town and behind in selling eggs so if anyone can pick up in Millsboro today please PM me. I don’t want them to go to waste. They are packaged in 1.5 dozen carts. All laid this past week. I have about 10 cartons available. I’d like to help folks and not have someone take them all to resell, so limited to 2 cartons per family please.

With the spread of AI in the U.S. this year, we were a little more cautious about letting anyone near our flock. If you’ve been here to talk birds then you know I can talk for day about them. I also enjoy letting folks see the birds from a distance, but it just wasn’t worth the risk this year. Thank you to everyone that has purchased birds this year and for understanding that we have to do what’s best for our flock. I promise to take some great pictures of all the growouts this fall when feather quality is at its best. We still have chicks and growouts available. Send us a message if interested.

This bush is always covered with pollinators every year. Butterflies, hummingbirds and lots of bees. Not my honey bees though. They don’t seem to like it at all.
