☀️🚨 Heat Safety Alert for Our Pawpular Pet Parents
With the ride in temperature we want to remind everyone that this level of heat can be dangerous for dogs-especially during midday hours when pavement and air temperatures peak. At this heat level, pavement can easily reach 130°F or more, which is hot enough to burn your dog's paws in just seconds. Because of this, we may need to shorten or adjust walks to ensure your pet stays safe. Please know that any walk cut short isn’t due to lack of care-it’s done with your dog’s health in mind.
Heat exhaustion and heatstroke are very real risks for dogs, particularly those with thick coats, short snouts, or underlying health conditions. Some of the earliest signs of heat exhaustion include excessive panting, drooling, bright red or pale gums, general weakness, vomiting, or unsteadiness while walking. If the heat continues to overwhelm them, symptoms can escalate to collapse, unresponsiveness, or seizures, all of which require immediate veterinary care. If you ever notice these signs, it’s important to move your dog into the shade, offer cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary attention right away.
To help protect your pets during hot days like today, we strongly recommend walking during the cooler parts of the day-early morning or later in the evening when the sun is lower. Always test the pavement by placing the back of your hand on it for five seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws. Stick to grassy or shaded areas whenever possible, and bring water to keep your dog hydrated during any time spent outdoors.
We appreciate your trust and understanding as we prioritize your pet’s well-being during the summer months. At Pawpular Pet Services, safety will always come first, even if that means a shorter stroll and some extra indoor playtime.
Stay safe and stay cool!
