There is a lot more that goes into socialization and the first 8 weeks of a dog's life than you think, and it starts as soon as dogs are born! Getting a πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί from someone who sets them up for success will make your training journey so much easier! Check out our sister page to see what goes into the first 8 weeks of a dog's life and share with anyone who might be looking for a new family member!

If you're πŸ‘€ for a new family member, we've got you!! A few people we had lined up decided now is not the time, so we are have a couple πŸ‘€ for 🏑!

The Weather pups are 5.5 weeks old, and they've already experienced so much! The first 8 weeks with are super important for socialization, and we do as much as we can to set them up for success in continuing socialization and beyond with their new owners! So far the they have:

🧠 Completed Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)

πŸ‘« Met 30+ new people with more on the schedule to go!

❀️ Visited an assisted living facility and met new people and experienced a new environment

πŸš— Went on car rides

🚽 Have started litterbox training to help with housebreaking in the future

πŸŽ† Have seen a lot of new objects and have heard a ton of new sounds - sirens, fireworks, gunfire, babies, cats, loud bangs, vacuum cleaners, just to name a few!

🐾 Have experienced a variety of surfaces - tile, hardwood, linoleum, concrete, grass, snow, grates, noisy metal pans, wobbly surfaces, low steps, and more!

🌳 Have explored outside and played in tunnels and on different obstacles

πŸ• Have played with noisy, moving, light up toys

🐩 Have played with adult dogs of different breeds

🏠 Have been raised in the house with us and explored all over indoors

🦴 Have started puppy level recall and training

πŸ’… Have had their nails done many times and have been on a grooming table

πŸ₯° Have been cuddled and loved since day 1!
...all of this, and we still have more to go! The puppies will meet more people; be introduced to more new objects, environments, surfaces, and noises; be introduced to crates; spend a lot of time playing and learning outside; spend more time with stable adult dogs; do more baby level training; and so much more!

Parents are both health tested (hips, elbows, cardiac, eyes, DNA) with lovely temperaments! These guys will be medium energy, smart, biddable, and sweet!

Camp Student Pumba has been here a week and is crushing his camp goals. He already looks like a totally different dog with just a week of our training under his belt.

As a 10 month old Aussie, to say he has over excitement issues, is an understatement and because of that he makes some pretty poor decisions, lol.

Like most young herding dogs, he loves to cause chaos. He likes to bite pant legs, bite/steal gloves, nips anything the moves, counter surfs, steals anything that isn’t nailed down, tries to control you (herding desire) jumps onto you, barks at you, so he's over all just a pretty rude dude. But that's all becoming a thing of the past, thanks to our training camp.

We've spent the first week at camp building a language, figuring out eachother and now we're starting to put those skills to use and begin changing his behavior.

In this training session I'm introducing the "out" cue, aka drop what's in your mouth, for the first time which as you can imagine is going to be a life changing skill for his humans.

We're teaching appropriate ways to play with humans, redirecting his mouth onto a safe object, a toy, instead of human body parts. Thus giving him a healthy and safe outlet for his herding desire, so we can give the boy some appropriate mental fulfillment instead of always seeking negative attention from us humans.

The holiday break is over, and camp is back in session!

Welcome Pumba to camp! Pumba is a 10 month old aussie who needs some help learning his manners. He is a happy, bouncy boy who has a tough time controlling his excitement which gets him into trouble when he pulls on his walks, jumps, nips, and just won't sit still. We are super excited to work with this young boy and can't wait to give his owners back Pumba 2.0!

Got a new puppy and dont know where to begin?

The number one thing you should be focusing on is building a relationship with *you* through positive reinforcement training.

Start by teaching your puppy how to lure!

Luring is a foundation skill and is an easy and powerful engagement building game. It's as simple as holding a treat in your hand and teaching your puppy to follow it as you move it around in different directions.

Once you have mastered the art of luring. Begin using this skill by encouraging the puppy over various different objects to build confidence and trust in your leadership.

These 7 week old puppies are just starting their training journey by learning how to lure, learning to how come when called, socializing and having tons of fun all while building their confidence in a busy and distracting group setting, which is setting them up to be confident well rounded incredible adult dogs! All of this learning jam packed in just 1 positive experience!

At Puzzles Labradors, we go above and beyond socializing our puppies. Our goal is to set you and your new puppy up for a lifetime of success!

We have an incredible rock solid socialization protocol that our puppies go through before leaving us and we give you a head start on training to accelerate the learning!

Maisie graduates Puppy Head Start camp tomorrow! She was a bouncy puppy who loved to jump and pull on a leash, but now she walks nicely on a leash and greets people politely! She has also gotten a lot of fun socialization experiences with us which are super important for puppies!

Leash skills you can count on! This is what I teach my camp students. A nice loose leash and an attentive dog by my side.

Camp student Riley sticks by my side as I carry a 50lb sack of feed during our morning farm chores together.

Camp student Riley is at camp to work on his reactivity towards other dogs.

So we've been working reallyyyyyy hard on teaching him how to relax and coexist around a variety of different dogs!

He's doing amazing and is one step closer to becoming the good boy we know he can be!
