There are so many “asks” that go into riding a balanced, beautiful circle. Constant conversations need to be going on- both verbal and silent when you’re learning. How do we put it all together (?)…..the impulsion, the bend, staying in the rhythm, keeping our equine partner on the bit and carrying a frame, rider posture, rider breathing, coordinating the aides to get softness and engagement?
☝️☝️☝️ coordinating all of these things is HARD and takes patience, practice and repetition. When it’s said that horseback riding is a muscle memory sport, that is no joke! Harmony with your horse takes time/practice, a constant conversation with aides, fitness and mental fortitude.
My student this morning (pictured) really put in a heck if a lot of work on a new mount for him. This particular horse demands to be ridden, not carry a passenger. My student had to ask until he was probably tired of asking but he got beautiful results and learned that being present in the stride has big payoffs. He was able to get Sunstone to carry her frame with soft but steady contact. He was able to identity when he lost focus and she was above the bit again. We worked on being rhythmic and even got the most unintentional extended trot (holy heck it was beautiful) into a canter transition. Lots of “aha” moments and great takeaways! Way to go! Way to ride!
