Our organization has been called upon to assist in a neglect case out of Walton County!

Alaqua Animal Refuge Founder Laurie Hood contacted us on Jan 1st about two horses in desperate need of a soft landing and rehabilitation. Due to their organization recently accepting 21 horses from that county, they are at capacity with equines. Understandably. πŸ™πŸΌβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Two members of our team will intercept both horses tomorrow and transport them to our facility, where they will be quarantined and evaluated. Both horses desperately need immediate care, and our team is preparing for their intake.

Stay tuned for updates on both horses as they arrive and settle in. One is said to be a 22-year-old gelding, and the other a 9-year-old mare. πŸ™πŸΌ

If anyone would be willing to donate towards their immediate care, please see the links and button below.

With one horse returning and two in need, 2025 looks very busy! Every donation will help us to provide a soft landing where both horses can receive everything they need to heal.

Rescue is what we do, but we can’t do rescue without YOU. β€οΈβ€πŸ©ΉπŸ™πŸΌπŸŽ

Betty is sure proud of the new 100ft portion of the fence that she erected just before the rain and cool set in.

Who knew that she was actually efficient with a hammer and a nail!

Way to go Betty! πŸ‘πŸΌ πŸ‘πŸΌ

Now, to fix the rest of her destruction. πŸ”¨ 🦺

πŸŽ‰πŸŽπŸŒŸ Adoption Alert: Adam πŸŒŸπŸŽπŸŽ‰

We are so pleased to announce the official adoption of our beautiful little guy Adam!

If you thought that handsome miniature appy to the left looked familiar, well you’d be right. That dapper little guy is our Rico, adopted last year to this wonderful local family. β™₯️πŸ₯°

Rico asked Santa this year for a companion that was his own size. He was on his best behavior all year and today his Christmas wish came true.

Rico and family were out this past week to meet Adam, as we wanted to ensure (initially anyways) how the two would respond to one another. Their meeting went amazingly.

Adam left earlier today to join his new best pal Rico for a life full of love, good care, happiness and super duper stylish mini horse attire!

Thank you to the McClellan family for opening your home, pasture and hearts a second time for a rescue horse in need of a happily ever after! Your family has done such an exceptional job with Rico. He looks amazing and is full of happiness. That’s all we could ever ask for! β™₯️

Happy Trails boys! We can’t wait for updates! 🐎🐎

A beautiful Florida sunset with a beautiful palomino mare.

I would hate to ruin such a beautiful photo by stating that just before this photo was taken, Betty pushed through 3 rungs of hot tape just because she can.

No, we couldn’t possibly ruin such a beautiful moment with that nonsense.

We wish you all a happy and fence destruction free Friday evening. πŸŒ…πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸ’™πŸ§‘

Our absolute favorite little, but mighty friend and volunteer William surprised our team with a visit yesterday, all the way from Kentucky!!

William picked right back up where he left off, assisting our Director, Rashelle with haying and our volunteer team with grooming horses!

We sure missed your help around here and look forward to your next visit! They are never long enough! 🐎πŸ₯°

THANK YOU to Bill, an awesome volunteer of ours, for getting our tankless hot water heater set up at the barn!!

Our herd enjoyed a delicious, warm, soaked meal for dinner and team enjoyed a more streamlined process for soaking feed & forage pellets/cubes in these cooler temps.🐎β™₯️

Shoutout again to Lisa & Cindi for donating this wonderful resource to our organization. Our herd and hands thank you! πŸ˜‚πŸŽβ™₯️

Please join us in welcoming Cash back to our facility from adoption.

Cash arrived back into our care today through no fault of his own and is settling in nicely.

Cash was very well cared for by his adopter of which we are so thankful for.

He will be joining one of our local foster homes until he is ready to be re-listed for adoption. We do not typically re-list horses for adoption soon after they arrive, however, Cash is up-to-date, sound and healthy.

Once Cash has been seen by our vet, he will be listed for adoption. This sweet guy is a great catch, we just hate that this last adoption didn’t work out. Stay tuned for more Cash updates. πŸ–€πŸ€πŸŽπŸ€πŸ–€

Dahlia enjoyed a peaceful New Years Eve, and is looking forward to another year of safety under the care of our rescue team.

Dahlia is a now 25 year old QH mare, who originally arrived into our care in May of 2023 in an extremely emaciated and unkept physical condition.

After completing her rehabilitation in Dec of 2023, she was fostered out where unfortunately she lost 113lbs which was mostly muscle and water weight from being dehydrated, resulting in the need for a second yet less aggressive refeeding program.

Where we thought we were doing something good for her, letting her experience a more normal life within a herd outside of a rescue environment, sadly, it resulted in her not being adequately cared for. Even with extensive foster and adoption vetting, sometimes we cannot determine a β€œbad fit home” until a situation occurs.

We have vowed to never subject her to the possibility of improper care again and have decided to offer her permanent safety where her medical needs (equine asthma & arthritis) can be appropriately cared for by offering her sanctuary here with us. The rest of her years, she will only know what being loved and proper care feels like.

Dahlia is hopeful for a great 2025 and thank you all for your continued support that helps horses just like her to find the promise of safety for the remainder of their lives. πŸ₯‚πŸŽπŸŽŠ

🐎 Our 2024 stats are in! 🐎

2024, brought fewer rescue intakes but higher adoption returns and veterinary expenses due to the severity of neglect and health needs for new intakes.

β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή We said our excruciatingly painful goodbyes to Jennie, Maya, Wilbur & Ember.

🌟 4 of our seniors (Charlie, Patrick, Loretta & Grace) were transferred to Retirement Home for Horses Inc where they are living happily, knowing nothing but love and quality care.

🌟 We successfully adopted 4 equines who are living amazing forever lives (Cloud, Rico, Jackie & Jodie).

🌟 Placed 2 community horses into forever homes by way of our β€˜Community Horse Adoption Program’.

🌟 Welcomed back 6 adopted horses (Honey, Adam, Ace, Betty, Lady & Joey).

🌟 Provided safety to 18 current intakes which includes 2 pigs (Blanche & Fiona). 🐎🐽

This year we fundraised $71,363.54 with a total cost of care (veterinary, feed, forage, medical, farrier & facility maintenance) of $67,565.07.

2024 brings to end and emotionally and financially taxing year for our team. Though it had its heartbreaking moments, there were so many amazing and inspiring ones. We couldn’t do any of this without the support of our volunteers and community.

To all who have stood by us and worked with us, regardless of the nature, THANK YOU!

We are hopeful that the new year will bring greater awareness to the reality of equine neglect and cruelty that we see so much of within our community. We pray the new year will bring justice for those who cannot speak and hope for those in despair.

As we move towards the new year, we ask that you work with us to continue to provide not only our rescue herd but the many who have yet to be rescued and their voices unheard, the assistance that they need.

From our team and herd to yours, thank you all for your support which has carried us this year. Also thank you for your heartfelt words and compassion for what we do. It takes a village and we certainly have quite the village.

We will see you all next year! Happy New Year! πŸ₯‚

As we bid farewell to our 2024 year in rescue and welcome a brand new year, we want to give the true backbone of our organization a very big THANK YOU for all that you’ve done and continue to do for our mission in rescue.

Without your compassion, dedication, diligence and commitment to our herd, we simply would not be able to do what we do.

This year, we’ve welcomed wonderful new faces to the volunteer team and are incredibly excited to work together towards a better year for our local horses in need. To our senior volunteer crew and those who have been with us for a while now, thank you for continuously showing up and making a difference.

Together, we are a force to be reckoned with when it comes to equine welfare! Regardless of however and how often you donate your time, know that it’s never unnoticed, always appreciated and truly cherished.

We love our TEAM, and we wish you all a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year! We will see you all on the other side! πŸ₯‚πŸŽ2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5οΈβƒ£πŸŽπŸ₯‚

On this New Years Eve, our super senior gal, Cheyenne wanted to share with her followers her progress thus far.

Cheyenne was taped yesterday, which reflected a 200lb gain since arriving into our care on Sept 13, 2024.

She is feeling and looking better. As her health has improved, so has her physical abilities and happiness.

While she still has a ways to go in her rehabilitation for now muscle and some fat, we cannot negate just how far this beautiful and strong-willed mare has come.

Cheyenne is just one of the several equines who found their way into our care during the 2024 year, who will never know suffering, neglect and unwantedness again.

It has been such a pleasure to help Cheyenne and we look forward to further progress in 2025. Her rehabilitation was made possible by the vigilance, and support of our community. Thank you all. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Our team would like to take a moment to give a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, for their generous donation that funded our purchase of a Loops Rescue Equine System as well as both a horse and handler helmet.

This rescue system attaches to our tractor bucket but can also be used without the tractor, and is utilized to raise down or casted horses. It will also stabilize the horse until they are able to do so on their own.

The Loops Rescue Equine System is also equipped with an additional sling to hoist, move and hold horses from one location to another.

To our donor, you have no idea how vital this resource is to our mission. Our organization will not only be able to provide better care for downed and casted horses in our care, but will also seek to assist downed horses in our community as we can utilizing this incredible equipment.

God Bless you to the donor. This is a huge asset to our very vital and oftentimes critical mission in rescue. πŸ™πŸΌπŸŽβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

On this week’s espisode of β€œCalamity Jane”, our beloved Betty, aka Calamity Jane decided what fun it would be to blow through a fence in the front pasture, and lead 2 of her 3 herdmates into the neighbors yard.

Mind you, all of this took place last night at 10pm, approximately 10 minutes before the start of the massive storm that blew through.

Stay tuned for nexts weeks episode where Calamity Jane, aka Betty, learns how to fix a 3-rail wooden fence. πŸ”¨ 🧰 🦺 🚧 πŸŽπŸ˜…

On a more serious note, HUGE thank you to a wonderful neighbor who alerted us to their escape and held them at the front of the property until we could make our way up there. πŸ™πŸΌπŸŽ

Horses… proof that if you build it, they will NOT come…

Journey has a warm shelter with dry footing, yet she chooses to eat her feed in the rain and wind.

She will scoot her bucket or pan out into the open regardless of the weather. πŸ˜‚

It will never make sense but they know what they want and we’re just here to accommodate those wants. πŸ˜…
