While lots of dogs can be food motivated, that's not always the case. How do you decide what rewards to use? You should use what makes your dog happiest! For some that may be a piece of cheese and for others it will be some pets while you tell them how great they are!

🐾It's important to remember your dog chooses what is rewarding to them. They are individuals and you'll be most successful if you treat them as such.

🐶Rewards also have different values, think money. A reward for something simple like 'Sit' shouldn't be the same reward you'd use for something more complex like a 'Recall' or 'Heel'

As a reinforcement trainer this is probably the question I get asked the most! Will I have to use treats forever? Short answer is, no!

🐾Once your dog understands what we are teaching them I will teach you how to fade out using treats!

🐶While some people have a goal to cut out rewards ASAP others continue to use them. You don't work for free, do you?

🦷 Dog tooth brush kits can be purchased at most pet stores!

🐶 Remember to start slow, so your dog will learn to love getting their teeth brushed!

People often ask me why I wanted to be a dog trainer. The title is a little misleading. I teach people. I teach people to understand their dogs. I've learned so much in the last 8 years and I love using this knowledge to help other people feel confident with their companions. No matter what level you're on I'm happy to be a part of your journey. 💙

Also had to show off Leo! He is available to adopt at Santa Rosa County Animal Services. Leo knows how to sit, shake, come, stay, and walks well on a leash. He's happy to do his own thing or get lots of cuddles! Leo is a complete gem!

Meet my pack!
Last, but certainly not least is Ms. Penny! She is my ‘I’ve never met a stranger’ dog! She has never met a soul she doesn’t love. Penny is fully deaf and wears a vibration collar as her ‘look at me’ cue. Since she is deaf she is a complete Velcro pup! Penny rarely gets spooked, is always up for an adventure and of course enjoys a good cuddle!

Meet my pack!
Next is Aspen! Aspen was also 6 months old when she joined our family. She is my happy go lucky pup! She’s eager to please and likes to go most places (as long as it’s outdoors!). She may be small but she is quick! I adopted Aspen a little over 2 years ago. She has come a long way from the little jumping bean she was!

Meet my pack!
First up, Lucy! She is my floppy eared homebody! There is no doubt that Lucy is my heart dog. She’s a master of the pound puppy face, won’t sleep if she doesn’t have a blanket to curl up on, and teaches every dog she meets how to play tug-of-war. Lucy was 6 months old when she joined our family and had a rough start in life. Since then she has traveled through 18 states, welcomed both my human babies home, and provided me with endless cuddles!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I also wanted to take a second to reintroduce myself for any new followers. ☺️

I began working in the pet industry almost 8 year ago. I worked in a feed store where it was quickly discovered my passion was helping people learn how their dogs work and think. After I had my first child I left the feed store and started professionally dog walking. I noticed many of the dogs I was walking needed a little more manners and so their owners then begin hiring me to train with them. After my second child was born I decided to attend the Animal Behavior College and became a certified dog trainer. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a dog and their human achieve their goals together!


I now resides in Milton, Fl with her husband, two children, and three dogs. You can find me helping her community pets with Friends of the Santa Rosa Animal Shelter. I enjoy reading and continuing to educate myself on everything dog related. I enjoy teaching obedience and tricks but my favorite part of dog training being solving behavior problems. My goal as a dog trainer is to keep dogs from being rehomed and stay out of shelters.


I am a certified dog trainer through the Animal Behavior College. I have also taken courses in Animal Nutrition, Helping Shelter Dogs and Pet CPR. 💙

Thank you to everyone who made 2023 such a huge success!! We could not do it without our member, shelter staff, volunteers and the community support 🐾

This year we:

• Installed a sally gate for the play yard for safer introductions and a privacy fence for the surgical unit to allow a safe and quiet space to go to the bathroom for recovering pets.
• Spruced up the shelter with a beautiful mural by Tia Wind
• Got the longest shelter resident, Cleo, on TV (She finally found her forever home).
• Ordered a new industrial dryer
• Purchased 6 surgical packs and 2 autoclave racks to increase the efficiency of spays and neuters
• Coordinated with Holley-Navarre Fire Department and Skyline Fire Department to house microchip readers and expedite the owner return process.
• Hosted 6 Free Training Classes for the public with the help of East Bay Dog Spot, Friendly Ears Dog Training, and Concerned Canines.

I want to take a second to brag on Miss Sasha and her fabulous mom! These two have the cutest bond. Her goal was for Sasha to not be afraid to walk down the block. While Sasha is still building her confidence this team has accomplished several other things! Sasha is no longer barking at neighbors she sees everyday, she can be comfortable and relaxed in her front yard (she has even watched the neighbors pup play!), Sasha's recall has improved and best of all when Sasha is unsure or discovers something new in her surroundings she looks to mom for assurance!

Dog training is a lifetime commitment. Our end goal isn't always going to be something we achieve quickly. All dogs have their own pace and you'll have the most success listening to your dog than trying to follow an agenda!
