Lala’s Rescue

Lala’s Rescue Our mission is to advocate & provide a safe haven for animals that are abandoned, abused, or neglected. We aim to spread education on proper animal care.

We operate to encourage adoption over the support of breeding mills. Our mission is to advocate and provide a safe haven for small animals that are abandoned, abused, and neglected. We educate others on animal care, welfare, and rights. We operate as a foster-based, volunteer run nonprofit, serving Washington state.

It's ! It's been such a crazy year we can't believe it's almost over! We have gotten almost ALL of our debt starting back from 2020, PAID! Now we are working on helping keep our foster homes stocked on supplies, our monthly medications for our special babes paid for, and staying prepared for emergencies. Every dollar helps us provide medical care. Every chew toy keeps one of these babes busy and happy. Every donated supply helps keep their spaces clean. Every volunteer helps us continue doing this work. Please consider giving back to these animals if you can this season.

To this day, we still get these boys mixed up. They were returned to us October 2023, to no fault of their own, and they haven't had any interest since. For some reason, albino animals (white fur/red eyes) don't get the best rep. Like black cats, there has been superstitions surrounding them for their appearance. But these boys are just the sweetest. They enjoy lap time and wheeking for veggies. They are the chillest pair of brothers who would love to find someone to love. Their adoption fee is waived till the end of the year in hopes of helping them find their forever home.

Soju has been on medication for her bladder issues for the last month and she has a few more weeks before she wraps up treatment. Hopefully this resolved things and she won't have to continue with more treatment. 🤞🏼

It was mentioned yesterday that the pound is full and has stopped taking personal surrenders. A personal surrender is when you as an owner of a pet surrender it to the pound.

There is no hard and fast rule except that Personal Surrenders can be euthanized by the pound immediately if they choose to (as technically they are not a lost pet)... if the pound is full, this is what can happen in many pounds.

So if the pound is not taking personal surrenders what happens? They have opted out of killing animals. In a way, they are saying "you take responsibility".

Vets are now contacting rescuers to say they have family pets booked in to be killed by their owners. It's that cut and dried.

In some cases it's heartbreaking, owners going into aged care or having serious health issues. In other cases it's sheer laziness.

One owner was going on holidays and just didnt want the hassles of a pet sitter . . another literally just said "I dont want the thing anymore . . and demanded it is put to sleep". In that last instance the vets took the cat and slipped it to a rescue in the background. The vet can opt to do that . .they cant be forced to kill an animal. Sometimes the owners get very demanding, but you cannot force someone to kill your perfectly healthy pet.

Why someone would be so self centred that they would demand to kill their own pet is beyond us. But I digress.

The reality is that in MOST cases, surrendering is a very last option of a desperate situation that people want to avoid. In most instances the owner has had a lot of time to plan options but doesnt. Our recommendations are :

- Advertise your pets and talk to all of your friends and family about options.
- Set up a page and tell their story, share photo's and ask with work and friends. Look for alternatives. Many times animals are rehomed with friends, neighbors and relatives.
- Do the hard yards of interviewing and working towards a new home.
- As a last resort, contact a rescue, but be aware that this time of year rescuers are being smashed with kittens so dropping adults on them "for convenience" is not looked on well, you may need to be prepared to make a large donation or bequest to help them.

The pound system is flat out this time of year coping with kitten season and this will only increase as the warmer weather and holidays kick in. The most you can do to help yourself and your animals will ensure they live longer and into a great home. DK
