🐶💚🐱 👻 Examine your fur friend’s costume for any small details that could possibly become a choking hazard to your pet. Also make sure your pet’s costume does not hinder their ability to move, breathe, meow or bark. If your pet seems distressed, it would be best to remove their costume.

👻 Remind children not to provide any candy to your fur friend and keep candy in a safe place. Many types of candy contain Xylitol (a crystalline sugar alcohol that is used as a sugar substitute) which is harmful for your pet.

What should you do if your pet ingests harmful candy such as chocolate?🍫 Contact the ASPCA Poison Control at (888)426-4435.

👻 If you're trick-or-treating or going out with your pet, consider using reflective gear or a safety dog collar light. Your pet may become frightened, causing him/her to slip out of their collar. Micro-chipping is an excellent way to I.D. your pet if he/she becomes lost.

Contact FTAC with questions about micro-chipping your pet. *Receiving a microchip at FTAC includes a free consultation with the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline. Please call us at (770)450-8880 with any questions!

🎉🐾 Celebrate July 4th with Peace of Mind! 🐱🐶

Dear FTAC Clients,

As we gear up for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of our furry friends who may experience noisephobia during fireworks displays. Here are some recommendations to help keep your beloved dogs and cats calm and comfortable:

1️⃣ Create a Safe Haven: Set up a quiet, secure space at home where your pets can retreat to when the fireworks begin. Fill it with their favorite toys, blankets, and a familiar scent.

2️⃣ Stay Indoors: Keep your pets indoors during fireworks shows to minimize exposure to loud noises. Close windows, draw curtains, and play soft, soothing music to create a calming environment.

3️⃣ ID Tags and Microchips: Ensure your pets are wearing proper identification tags with updated contact information. Microchipping is highly recommended, as it increases the chances of a reunion if they accidentally escape due to fear.

4️⃣ Distraction and Enrichment: Engage your pets with interactive toys or puzzles to divert their attention from the noise outside. Providing mental stimulation can help alleviate anxiety.

5️⃣ Consult Your Veterinarian: If your pet's fear of loud noises is severe, consult our experienced veterinarian. We can suggest behavior modification techniques or recommend appropriate medications to help manage anxiety. Sedative medications like Trazodone, Alprazolam, and Sileo may be considered under our guidance for specific cases.

For any further questions or assistance, please contact Family Tree Animal Clinic at 770-450-8880.

Remember, a little extra care and attention go a long way in keeping our four-legged family members safe and content during Independence Day festivities. We wish you and your furry companions a joyful and stress-free July 4th!

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸🎇

03/29/2023

Seasonal allergies🍃🤧 can be a real nuisance for dogs. Just like humans, dogs can develop allergies to things like pollen, grass, and mold. Some common signs of seasonal allergies in dogs include itching, scratching, and biting at their skin, as well as sneezing and watery eyes. If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, it's important to schedule an appointment with us at the Family Tree Animal Clinic. We can help identify the source of the allergies and provide treatment options, such as prescription medications or hypoallergenic diets.

Flea and tick protection is also essential for your dog's health. These pesky parasites can cause a range of issues, from skin irritation to serious diseases like Lyme disease. At Family Tree Animal Clinic, we offer a variety of flea and tick prevention options, including topical treatments, collars, and oral medications. Our team can help you choose the best option for your dog's lifestyle and needs.

Prescription diets from brands like Hill's, Purina Proplan, and Royal Canin can be extremely beneficial for dogs with certain health conditions. For example, dogs with food allergies or sensitivities may benefit from hypoallergenic diets.

In addition to prescription diets, we also offer Cytopoint and Apoquel to help manage allergies in dogs. Cytopoint is a monthly injection that targets a specific protein in the body to help reduce itching and inflammation caused by allergies. Apoquel is a daily pill that works to block the specific enzymes that cause itching and inflammation. Both of these medications can provide relief for dogs suffering from seasonal allergies.

We hope this information has been helpful in understanding the importance of seasonal allergies, flea and tick protection, prescription diets, Cytopoint, and Apoquel for your furry friend. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at the Family Tree Animal Clinic. Our team is always here to help keep your dog happy and healthy.

Just like us humans, pets benefits from regular dental cleanings and at-home dental maintenance. Unfortunately, without opposable thumbs, your pet may need a bit of help.

Here are a few quick and simple ways to keep your pet’s teeth as healthy as possible between regular dental check-ups.

Brush you pet’s teeth:
-Although daily brushing is ideal, we understand just how busy life can get. Commit to regular brushing and try building up to a daily brushing routine.

Feed a healthy diet:
-Imagine if you only ate candy, chips, and soda. Your pet’s diet can absolutely affect their dental health so be sure to feed them a diet that can help them maintain good dental health. Contact Dr. Bannister for any suggestions particular to your pet’s needs.

Consider using dental chews, toys, and oral solutions:
-There are a number of products available for your pet to chew on that can actually help clean tartar from teeth. We would love to talk with you about what chews or rinses can be helpful.

Most importantly, be sure to commit to regular dental check-ups and cleaning:
-Preventative care for dental health can avoid painful dental disease and expensive procedures. By proactively maintaining good dental health, you can spot things well before they turn into a bigger concern.

Implementing these few tricks can save your pet from dental disease, which can affect overall health and quality of life, as well as save your wallet from unnecessary strain.

Call us at (770) 450-8880 or email us at [email protected] to schedule your pet’s dental exam and learn what to expect.
