Meet Winston! He is a 2yr old purebred Sheltie on the smaller side. He was an owner surrender and is recommended for a home without allot of activity. Winston would do best in a home with a retired person or someone who works from home. He is very much a Velcro dog. He does well in large gatherings, inside stores, on the leash and off leash once he gets to know you. He does not suffer from separation anxiety but does miss his human when gone. He is up to date on all shots and fixed. Unfortunately, Winstons old owners were misguided and got him debarked. Which means he cannot bark or make any sounds. This means he cannot properly communicate with other animals/dogs. He tries to play but lacks confidence as he has no way of giving boundaries like other dogs can. Thus, he can get nervous and want to be secluded. For this reason we are placing him in a home without other dogs or a home with a relaxed senior dog with good boundaries. His adoption fee is $450.
About his breed:
The Shetland Sheepdog, often known as the Sheltie, is a breed of herding dog that originated in the Shetland Islands of Scotland.
Shetland sheepdogs are known for their gentle, sweet, pleasing personality. They are also playful and affectionate, all traits that have made them a popular family pet. Breed experts often comment that Shelties like to please; coupled with their intelligence, it is no wonder they excel at obedience training.
Temperament: Intelligent, Playful, Affectionate, Lively, Responsive, Reserved, Loyal, Alert, Eager, Trainable,
Height: 13” (33cm)
Weight: 16.2oz
Home requirements:
Because they are active, working dogs by nature, Shelties like to be kept busy and want the company of their guardians. They are not dogs content to lie around alone all day. Shelties can, however, do well in small homes or apartments as long as they are exercised in a fenced-in yard or walked on a leash.
Grooming: Their ample coat requires a good brushing at least twice weekly; the coat sheds heavily in the fall and spring.
