🐕‍🦺 March dates are now open! Sign up your pup for our fun and engaging group training classes! Our classes use reward-based training techniques and focus on building the bond between dogs and their owners, relaxation in new spaces, and basic manners.
🐾 Dog Manners Class:
In this class, we will introduce basic learning theory to owners so that they can effectively troubleshoot behavior concerns beyond the end of the class. We will focus on helping dogs to relax in new spaces, offer their owners attention, and the foundation for sit, down, stay, walking nicely on leash, coming when called, and relaxation around food.
🐾 Group Puppy Class:
Focused on helping dogs learn the skillset to relax in new spaces, offer their owners attention, and the beginnings of a few basic manners. Each week we will reserve a few minutes to discuss common behavior concerns and how to approach them with positive reinforcement based training and effective management.

🗓️Save the date! The Wisconsin Humane Society's annual Pet Telethon will be broadcast live on FOX6 News Milwaukee from 6-11am on Friday, March 7. We'll be introducing lots of adorable animal guests - trust us when we say, you don’t want to miss it! WHS serves more than 40,000 animals and their families each year, and does not receive any general government funding nor are we a part of any national umbrella group, so fundraisers like this are critically important to our mission!

Meet Jezzy, this week's from our friends at 102.9 The HOG. With the sweetest smile and the biggest heart, this 4-year-old boy is a staff and volunteer favorite. He has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, plus, his adoption fee has been reduced to $25, and that still includes all our regular perks like free vet exam voucher and starter bag of food. Our Pets for Life team met Lay Paw in June of 2020, when she was just 17 years old. Since then, she has single-handedly introduced the Karen community -- a large ethnic group from Southeast Asia -- to our Pets for Life outreach program. PFL provides free services in Milwaukee neighborhoods where finances, transportation, and a lack of local resources often stand in the way of access to pet care. But we can only bridge those gaps if we're able to clearly communicate with the families we meet. That's where Lay has stepped up in incredible ways to connect families with our services, provide translation, share information and resources, and let community members know we’re a partner they can trust.
While we do have a translation provider, those services are offered over the phone, which can feel impersonal and cumbersome. It’s amazing to have Lay’s support since she knows her community and can relay messages in a reliable, effective, and reassuring manner.
We are profoundly grateful to Lay, and we are so lucky to have her as a partner to support the people and pets in our community.❤️

With the help of a grant from the Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust (a KeyBank Trust), we will keep growing our relationships in 2025. With their support of this vital program and the amazing families in our PFL community, we will continue to keep animals and families together!

This 10-year-old lady is full of love and ready to share it. During her walks, she loves to sniff everything around her and enjoys stopping every now and then to warm up in the sunlight. In just 24 hours, 562 donors raised an incredible $100,604 during Give BIG Green Bay to support the WHS Green Bay Campus! Thanks to each and every one of you, we earned a $5,000 bonus prize for having the most individual donors! 🎉
Your gifts will go even further for the animals and families we serve once the additional matching funds from the Green Bay Packers Foundation Foundation and other donors are tallied and distributed to all the participating nonprofits. Dolly was tense and trembling with her tail tucked when she arrived at the Wisconsin Humane Society Green Bay Campus. Some gentle attention from our vets eased her fears, but severe dental disease meant Dolly would need surgery. With several teeth already loose and some even falling out during her dental exam, 18 teeth were extracted. She spent the next week receiving expert care from staff, further building her trust and confidence before completing her recovery with one of our amazing foster families.
Within an hour of becoming available for adoption, Dolly was on her way home with her new parents. Dolly has been delighted by her new life which includes walks, car rides, following mom and dad from room to room, and knowing she has found love with a family who tells us, “... our goal is, that she has nothing less than all we can give her. She will have a lot of attention, creature comforts, proper medical care, and healthy nutrition…thank you for being there to accept little Dolly in her time of need…thank you for letting her join our little family. She is now the best part of every day." 💚💛

📢 Introducing: Benchwarmer Tryouts! A new foster-to-adopt program for select dogs at WHS!
“Benchwarmer” is the label we lovingly give to dogs who’ve been with us longer than average, along with a lower adoption fee and increased promotion. To get our benchwarmers back in the starting lineup and help them find their match, we’re excited to introduce “Benchwarmer Tryouts.” Through this program, you can take a benchwarmer home for up to 7 days to see if they’re a good fit for your team. If you fall in love and want to add them to your family’s roster, you can complete the adoption online from the comfort of your own home.

To get started with the Benchwarmer Tryouts program:
1️⃣ Complete our foster application online now at wihumane.org/foster/apply and indicate you’re interested in Benchwarmer Tryouts, so we can get you approved as soon as possible! You only need to apply once, and we encourage you to do so right away to expedite the process so you’re on the fast-track if you find a potential teammate.
2️⃣ Once you’ve been approved by our foster team, simply stop by the WHS location nearest you during adoption hours to meet the available benchwarmers and take home a pup the same day!

If you decide it’s not a great fit during the tryout period, no worries! Simply bring them back to WHS and they'll be prepped for their next tryout, having benefitted from a shelter break and the "home-court" experience! Should another benchwarmer catch your eye, you're welcome and encouraged to do another tryout until you find your match. ❤️
