Saving lives since 1994, Happy Endings is one of the oldest and largest no-kill cat shelters in Milwaukee, WI.

We focus on promoting the health, rehabilitation, and placement of cats into loving & "furever" homes as well as educational/communal outreach. Many of the cats at Happy Endings were once strays or experienced mistreatment in their past. Our shelter allows these cats a second chance, as our volunteers take time and a special approach with each, understanding their individual needs and what home th

ey'd be best suited for. Our "Socialization Sponsors" program also allows for individuals to work with our cats on a daily basis, helping to build trust and restore the loving bond between cat and human. Happy Endings offers a secure and loving environment for our cats until they're ready to take the next step in their journey via adoption or fostering into loving homes.

The Shepherd Express puts out a Best of Milwaukee 2024 list every year and in order for us to make the list, we need your help! Happy Endings has made the list before and we can do it again.

You can nominate Happy Endings No-Kill Cat Shelter so we can show up on the list for final voting.

The Nomination Round takes place from September 12 through October 10.

The Final Voting Round runs from October 31 through November 28.

Here is how you can help:

Cleaning days at the shelter. Most everybody is out and about playing with one another. One of our volunteers, June, said All the residents loved this toy. Thank you to our volunteers who over see this massive undertaking several times a week and giving our cats and kittens all the playtime and love.

Did you know Yukon and Denali were raised in a foster home? This gives them excellent social skills and manners. They get along with other cats, and small children. Come out and say hi to them this week!

Meet Denali and Yukon, our cats of the month for September.
These two best boys are brothers. In November they will be one year old. Both are as handsome and as delightful as can be and full of happy, playful energy. They love to: roam, use the scratching posts, sit atop the cat climbers, and play with string toys. These boys love treats and when you open the package, they are right there at your side or standing on their hind legs. Set the treat bag down and they might take off with the entire bag. Both have been around small children and don’t seem to be bothered by much of anything. They are not a bonded pair but they have been with one another since they were born. They can be adopted separately but, perhaps you may be interested in two cats? After all two cats are better than one😻. There is truly nothing bad to say about these boys. They are precious and purr if you look in their direction. If you are interested in these sweet boys come visit us on Thursdays from 6 PM to 9 PM and on Saturdays 11 AM to 4 PM. Meow. 🤎🤍🖤

Happy CATurday but not so much for us at Happy Endings No Kill Cat Shelter this morning 😿 Our websight is currently unavailable and it's our last day for our 2025 calander submissions! If interested, you can submit your pets (all makes and models welcome) and payment can be made thru mailing a check to our shelter or stopping in and making payment. Again... deadline for submission is TODAY.
Also it's our last day featuring Vanessa as our pet of the month. She's too cute and sweet to stay around for another month. Come meet her today from 11-4 🖤

Tonight I interviewed Vanessa, She is our cat of the month for August😻😻😻😻😻😻 and August is almost over.

She is about two years old female. She was surrender as a pregnant mama because she was previously in a home with an unneutered male.

She gave birth to four adorable all black kittens. All have been adopted, except her.

She is as sweet as can be and she will meow and head butt you for attention. If you stand next to her crate she will tap you to say hello. She has the cutest little face and big green eyes. When it is time for wet food and she sees you with it in your hand, she will meow to let you know she ready to eat! She is very laid back and likes to play with the laser pointer. She especially love to take a rest atop the cat climber in the office at the shelter. She likes to see all across the lay of the land at the shelter. She gets along with other cats and children.

Today, tomorrow, and Saturday from 9 to 5 our generous volunteer Kris will be donating the proceeds of her rummage sale to Happy Endings No Kill Cat Shelter for our 30th anniversary! Behind the scenes! At our shelter we have volunteer fosters who work with our "harder to adopt" cats 24/7 in their own homes. Maybe they are scared or aggressive. This process gives the cat the best chance at them finding their FOREVER home.
Hillary, one of our fosters, recently took Urban and said "The real Urban. One of the sweetest cats I’ve ever known. Yes, he is still wary of humans - this will take time, patience, & understanding. However, he LOVES other cats. Even when my boys are less than welcoming to him, he does not retaliate with even a hiss. He tries to rub on them and wants so much to be their buddy. He is truly a beautiful boy with a sweet baby meow. He deserves the best home."

Tonight we let the BIG boys of the month Milo and Niko run the shelter. This moment happened to be narratived by our shelter secretary Karen J. who was around the corner and didn't know I was recording 🤣 I think it captured their thoughts exactly, what do you think? 😻😻

This is Muppin. She's a hidden treasure at the shelter. She usually hides during open houses but we wanted to show you her sweet and playful personality. Not all cats at the shelter act how they normally will in their forever homes. Hopefully we can find her a home soon. 😻
