My frozen egg post got y’all fired up 😅 It was only one day’s eggs! Sometimes I prioritize spending my time making sure my birds are comfortable in the cold rather than worrying about collecting eggs every 30 minutes.

What I care about more than just about anything else is being realistic about the egg colors you’ll get from pullets you buy from me.

Breeders have a tendency to show their coolest eggs because that’s what gets engagement on social media, but the reality is that not every pullet is a winner. Full sisters can lay wildly different eggs.

Notice that some of the Chocolate Egger eggs in this picture are not that dark. I always recommend buying a few of any variety that has the potential to lay the egg color you’re after. You’ll likely find that a spectrum of shades is what makes each dozen eggs really stand out in a carton ❤️

It’s that time of year again when new people find me and start dropping into my comments and DMs accusing me of being a scammer.

I know, I know—sexed female chicks that lay the egg colors you’re used to seeing from only straight run chicks. It must be too good to be true, but it’s not—it really is that good. It’s just genetics.

I have worked 10-12 hour days 7 days a week for the last 3 years to build Sad Scientist into what it is now. Please don’t come here and say I’m scamming folks.

If you ordered chicks last year, please leave a pic of the eggs you’re getting from those sexed day-old females I sent ya 😘

Super Floofs!!!

Super Floofs are an exclusive Sad Scientist creation and without a doubt the cutest variety we have.

Not quite bantam, not quite large fowl, these delightful creatures are surprisingly productive layers of medium-sized BLUE eggs. They tend to be broody.

Super Floofs are available as hatching eggs for 2025. Feather color possibilities—blue, black, splash, cuckoo, or partridge. Feather type possibilities—smooth, frizzled, silkied, or frizzled silkied.

Backcross Olive Egger Hatching Eggs will produce Olive Egger hens that lay dark green or dark brown eggs. Sometimes called Moss Eggers or F2 Olive Eggers, these later generation Olive Eggers (BC1, BC2, BC3, BC4) will give you dark olive eggs and deep shades of brown.

Here’s a comparison of our Chocolate Eggers vs standard grocery store brown eggs vs Black Copper Marans.

There is always variation in brown egg lines so we recommend getting at least a few pullets to add a nice range of darker shades.
