We have a new instructor to welcome, Kristie Niemi!

Kristie Niemi, CPDT-KA, has been a professional dog trainer for over twenty years and is currently an assistance dog instructor/trainer for Helping Paws, Inc., in Minnesota. Kristie is passionate about pet welfare, whether she is working with local rescue groups, helping clients with behavior problems and basic training, or teaching pet safety and First Aid/CPR classes. Kristie volunteers regularly with her Sheltie, Keen, as a therapy dog team through Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and Kristie and Keen are a canine/handler team for the Midwest Region of HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response.

Huge thank you to everyone who has reached out to me during this difficult time. I've always said I have the best clients and friends. I am getting things wrapped up at the dog training center and will have a final sale open to the general public this Sunday, January 21st from 1 to 3. Students and friends are welcome to stop by any time before Sunday to see if there is anything they would like to buy before the public is invited in. I should be at the training center from 8 am until about Noon. Not sure about Friday and Saturday's hours yet.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I will be closing my training center this month. All clients with active packages should have received an email from me with the number of lessons left to use. Classes will be held until January 19th and then a liquidation sale will be held Sunday, January 21st. All furniture, decor, agility equipment, dog training equipment and other supplies will be sold. I have a list of items and what I paid for them available, along with pictures, and will be happy to pre-sell items on the condition anything I may need to finish up classes will be picked up on the 21st. Anything I do not need for classes can be taken now. Email me at [email protected] for a list of items, or feel free to stop by and take a look.

I truly appreciate all of my friends and students who supported me this year. It was my goal and dream to have my own dog training center open again and I was so proud of what I put together. I love teaching and am hopeful I will be back at it in the not too distant future.

Sunny is using her "spot" at NRG Center while waiting for Corgi races at half time. I love this exercise so much - it gives your dog is own comfort zone regardless of where you are!

Need to practice for next weekend's dog show or Pets With A Mission therapy dog test? I have an Obedience Level 1 class scheduled for 1 PM today. Depending on who signs up I can practice whatever skills you want to work on.

There is also Puppy SOS at 2 and Agility Run for Fun at 3.

Is anyone interested in being tested for Community Canine and/or Urban Canine? I have one person who wants to be tested but it will be much easier for me to test multiple people at once. I'll do the tests in The Waterway area of The Woodlands at a mutually convenient day and time for those interested.

You must have the CGC to take the advanced test(s).

I had a fun group of women come practice nose work with their dogs today. I took a break to watch the "blind hides." The dogs LOVE these games!

This never ending heat is making it near impossible to get our dogs out for exercise. I'm going to continue my August K9 Gym special through September so people can take advantage of my air conditioned facility to exercise their dogs' bodies - and minds! K9 Gym is a half hour class that is open to four dog/handler teams at a time. Four stations are set up - two cardio and two strength and balance. The dog/handler teams take turns rotating through the stations. No previous training is necessary as everything is done on leash. The class is on sale for $30 each or buy a package of five for $130 and save even more. The schedule and other information is on my website. This is Harley, who has been a client of mine since she was a puppy. We had a great lesson today. She is doing extremely well off leash, as you can tell, but she has some attention and impulse control problems on leash. Lots of dogs act differently on leash than they do off. Her owner/trainer Craig will be trying some new things with her. Coming soon...video of Harley walking nicely on a leash through a crowd!
