Ruger is LOVING agility! He's had about five lessons so far. We've raised the obstacle heights and started doing some sequences since he was doing so well. #smartpeoplehavesmartk9s #agilityaussieinthemaking
I had a fun group of women come practice nose work with their dogs today. I took a break to watch the "blind hides." The dogs LOVE these games!
This never ending heat is making it near impossible to get our dogs out for exercise. I'm going to continue my August K9 Gym special through September so people can take advantage of my air conditioned facility to exercise their dogs' bodies - and minds!
K9 Gym is a half hour class that is open to four dog/handler teams at a time. Four stations are set up - two cardio and two strength and balance. The dog/handler teams take turns rotating through the stations.
No previous training is necessary as everything is done on leash.
The class is on sale for $30 each or buy a package of five for $130 and save even more. The schedule and other information is on my website.
I also have puppy, obedience, agility, trick, and therapy dog classes.

Morgan loved K9 Gym this morning! Her first time putting paws on the equipment, but she learned very quickly. She left a tired and happy girl! #k9gym #smartpeoplehavesmartk9s
I have the BEST co-worker. He reminds me we all need to stop work and take play breaks.
I taught a dog how to safely swim today. What did you do today?
This is Harley, who has been a client of mine since she was a puppy. We had a great lesson today. She is doing extremely well off leash, as you can tell, but she has some attention and impulse control problems on leash. Lots of dogs act differently on leash than they do off. Her owner/trainer Craig will be trying some new things with her. Coming soon...video of Harley walking nicely on a leash through a crowd!
No escaped inmates with Officer Keen on duty! #smartk9s #correctionsofficerkeen #respectthebadge
Keen loves playing brain games! SmartK9s has a lending library for students to check games like these out. #smartk9s #enrichmentfordogs #sheltiesofinstagram
Forrest taking Tonto for a walk. Forrest is available for adoption through Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas.
Allie is super smart! She figured out putting the treat ball on the bed would be less work and get more treats out than rolling it around the room.
This is one of the many reasons I love my job. Miss Mollie really makes me laugh! ❤ Dogs!!
This is my client Remi. Can you guess why I call him Remi Roo Roo? Usually he does this the entire time I'm making his meal...without prompting!
Here's a video from this morning's puppy class.
"Name Game" Video
I was asked to do a series of short training videos for the Official Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas and KSTAR News. Here is the first video. I had planned to use food to reinforce and reward Linny's new name, but she decided she liked petting better! If your dog is food motivated, great - pair their name with their meal. If they prefer toys, use toys. If they prefer petting, like Linny, use that. Every dog has a favorite thing!
