One question we often receive is regarding how long an appointment usually takes. The typical length of an appointment is anywhere from 30-45 minutes. It depends on the status of your pet, you, your family, and how long you want things to take.

We never want to rush you or your family during this difficult and heartbreaking time.

Today, on National Pet Memorial Day, we pause to honor the animal companions that are no longer with us.

We invite you to share a photo or memory of your pet in the comments below, so together we can remember the love and joy they brought into our lives 💜🐾

Another way to memorialize a beloved pet is with a statue or figurine. After her kitty passed, Jessica, one of our support specialists, was gifted a statue from a family member which was handpainted to look just like Nugget. Jessica kindly gave permission to share this in case it resonates with anyone else in their own journey with memorializing their beloved pet.

Honor your grief, for it is sacred. It is a testament to the depth of your heart. And in time, through the pain, you will find healing — not because you have forgotten, but because you have learned how to carry both love and loss together.

A recent client, unable to work due to disability, had shared nearly two decades with their beloved cat - together since she was just a kitten. Their cat was terrified of car rides, and they didn’t want her final moments to be filled with fear and panic. Saying goodbye at home felt like the only option, for her comfort and theirs.

Thanks to the Buddy Fund, we were able to help cover part of the cost, making a peaceful, loving goodbye possible.

Your support brings dignity and compassion to pets and their people when they need it most. If you would like to help a pet owner in need, you can make a donation through this link: https://scratchbilling.com/w/MN-Pets/itI1mvXoUEj6GNoFQPP6

We received this kind note from Lucky's family with permission to share ❤️
"Thank you for the caring and loving way you helped our boy Lucky pass peacefully from this world. The compassion you showed to him and to us was much needed and oh so appreciated. You are very good at what you do.
Being able to take the time we needed to say goodbye and Lucky being able to be at home - on his lawn where he most liked to be - made the awful more bearable.

We will highly recommend MN Pets to others when the time comes.

With appreciation,
Lucky's family"

We are honored to share another photo that is currently on display in the Fine Arts building at the MN State Fair. This photo, titled "Memento Mori," was submitted by one of our very own Support Specialists, Hether. Here's what Hether has to say about this photograph.

"I took this photo shortly after learning that I was going to lose my best girl. I had never intended it to be put on display or to be anything more than a memento for myself - but, in sharing this photo, it has started to help me process some of my grief surrounding this loss.
Losing Violet has been one of the hardest losses I have ever experienced. For the past 10 years: she has been my bff, my adorable shadow, the cutest backseat driver, she has been a constant source love and humor.. and she always gave the best hugs, too. She is so very missed."

We recently received a message from Christy, who used our services last year to help say goodbye to her beloved cat Sunny. With her permission, we wanted to share in turn her powerful message and artwork, which is currently on display at the MN State Fair, with all of you.

The artist's statement is in the comments. Thank you, Christy, for sharing your vulnerability and message in such a profound and powerful way.

"In June of 2024 we were devastated to have to make this decision after our sweet and beloved orange tabby Sunny was in grave condition from unexpected pleural effusion/complications. The grief was unbearable and a year later is still lingering. But your grief support emails were helpful and one suggested the outlet of art. I enjoy photography so I documented my raw and emotional grief in a series of photos. I have been hearing more and more of people dealing with this pain but not feeling much support.. it is time to normalize this pain and let pet owners know many share this type of grief. So, I submitted my photo "Facing Grief" in the Fine Arts at the Minnesota State Fair and it was accepted! I learned yesterday that it has earned an honorable mention award. I wanted to reach out to let you know (or if you want to share with clients) that it will be on display in the Fine Arts building during the fair and hopefully it resonates with others."

MN Pets

MN Pets is an in-home euthanasia service that operates in and around the Twin Cities and Duluth-Twin Ports area. Our doctors travel to families’ homes to help give a gentle goodbye to their beloved furry family members.

Several years ago, our founder, Dr. Rebecca McComas, recognized the importance of home euthanasia for her family’s two elderly beagles. Having only experienced saying goodbye to a beloved pet in a clinical setting, she was struck by how different it felt to be at home. It seemed natural to bring this much-needed service to other pet owners, and so she started MN Pets in 2010, the first exclusively in-home euthanasia practice in Minnesota.

Since then, the team at MN Pets has grown to include other highly qualified veterinary professionals who share a common interest in supporting people and their pets through end of life care. Each of our doctors and support professionals have a similar understanding and appreciation for the bond you share with your pet, and the benefits of saying goodbye at home.

We believe that pets deserve a gentle hand and voice, and people need compassion and support as they go through this difficult experience.
