A kind person sent us a big box from Chewy! It included 20 pounds of Purina Cat Chow, case of Friskies Tasty Treasures Gravy Prime Filets (very popular) and Friskies Classic Pate— we have six cats that only eat pate, so I need 115 cans a month. This is a huge help. Thank you, kind person!

Nice surprise, all this cat food was on my chair when I got to work today!! Thank you, Keith!

Keith used to be with the Reier Group and they used to have pet food drives for us. He’s moved to another company and got these great donations— I have specific cats in mind for the pouches (Missy) and Fancy Feast (Bella), and Mya will get the Wellness grain-free when we deliver in April. Keith, thanks so much for remembering about Ani-Meals!

James and Pat from DC Group moved all our pet food from our small room into a rack in the Community Emergency Service basement. This should make it easier to pack our pet food. It would have taken me a long time to move all that heavy stuff, but Pat and James did it all in less than two hours!

I can’t believe this, we received 4 more beds, joint health cat treats for Walter, pet wipes and some cat toys!! The cat toys are knitted balls with jingle bells inside—so cute. We have everything clients asked for except the cat food puzzles. I looked online and found instructions on how to make a cat food puzzle, so I’ll include instructions in our March deliveries.

Great news!!! Today we received enough pet beds, and Wet Ones for pets for everyone who asked for them and some great cat toys. We even have a few extra pet beds, so I’m going to contact a few of my clients who don’t see well and didn’t read our newsletter. This feels like Christmas—I want to thank both of our generous anonymous benefactors.
Blackie might even smile when she gets her new bed!

Great news!! Today I received FOUR brand new pet beds (they look soft and warm) from some generous person and another person sent a four pound bag of Hill’s Science Diet for cats. My friend, Clairette, is also donating a set of pet stairs and a pet bed.

So we only need five cat food puzzles, cat aloe wipes, one Arm & Hammer Pet Stain & Odor Remover and one joint health for cats.

Thanks so much to the three kind people who have donated to our clients!

We received a variety of donations in December, so I asked my clients if anyone wanted the items. The response was overwhelming; I had one dog bed and ten clients wanted one. So I contacted Caroline at The Animal Humane Society and she was able to give me additional shampoo, pet stairs, dental treats, cat treats and leashes.

However, I’m still short of some items. If anyone is willing to donate new or your pet isn’t using any more:
- 9 people would like beds for their small dog or cat
- 5 people requested cat aloe wipes; I’ve never heard of them but they are used to groom cats between baths
- 1 person requested pet stain & odor remover
- 5 were interested in interactive food puzzles for cats
- 1 cat, Walter (see picture) needs joint health for cats

Some of the voicemail messages I received were: “I’m ecstatic, I could never afford shampoo!”, “we are blessed that we have you in our lives”, “please know that you are appreciated” “I want to give a big, old hug to everyone!” “Coco LOVES the bed, she brought all her bones to it!”

If you can help, let Sarah know (she is in charge of our Facebook group) and we will keep an accurate total of what is needed.

A very nice couple just dropped off a case of cat cans and 3 bags of Meow Mix! I forgot to ask them their names (I’m recovering from a cold), but I do appreciate their generosity—the cat food will be delivered I to our happy cats in March.

A new veterinary option is being piloted at the Animal Humane Society University Avenue clinic on February 8th and 9th.

What it is:
-short preventative only appointments with a vet tech to provide vaccinations, preventatives, and a basic well check.

Cost:
-$33.00 exam + $15.00 for Rabies vaccine + $15.00 for Distemper + $15.00 for Bordetella for those who qualify for standard pricing (open to anyone)

-$26.25 exam + $15.00 for Rabies vaccine + $15.00 for Distemper + $15.00 for Bordetella for those who qualify for reduced pricing

How to make an appointment:
-Call AHS customer service representatives at 763-489-7729 and select “current client” in the phone tree OR email [email protected] to get priority scheduling. They will screen clients for eligibility and book the appointment.

Preventative care is an important part of pet health. Community members often lack access to affordable preventative care which can lead to larger medical concerns that can be costly and lead to poor outcomes without treatment. AHS Vet Centers are committed to finding ways to break down barriers preventing people from accessing consistent medical care for their pets.

A huge thank you to Tara for her generous donations of a Chewy gift card, as well as cat food and dog food! Her family donates to charities instead of buying Christmas gifts and this year she chose Ani-Meals. We think that is such a great idea and we are so grateful for the donations. Deb and Marlene feed feral cats in their neighborhood so they don’t kill the birds. They have been trying to catch the females so they could get them spayed, but it’s hard to do because the cats are wily! Does anyone know someone who could help them? Spaying has become more expensive, so it would help if they knew where to get some assistance.

This is Bean, she was once feral and it took her a long time to trust, but she is now a happy cat!

Hi everyone!

This has been a great month for Ani-Meals. Three people sent us Chewy gift cards and another sent us a case of dog food, and large bags of PurinaOne Sensitive Skin & Stomach and Purina Cat Chow Complete. This is a fantastic way to start the new year! We delivered 10,940 pounds of pet food and 1,629 pounds of litter in 2023. We delivered to 106 cats and 28 dogs this month. A lot of our cats are elderly, so we send out about 800 cans of cat food a month—which is a challenge. Fortunately, we have been able to get a grant from Meals on Wheels America every year, and coupled with donations from individuals, we have been able to keep everyone fed, and we have also been able to help with exams and vaccinations.

Thank you so much for helping us keep our seniors and their pets happy and healthy. Happy New Year to you all!

When TillieBean takes a nap, Sammy throws himself on top of her. I’m not sure if he likes using her for a pillow or he’s making sure that if she leaves he can follow her. I think she loves him—she doesn’t mind him draping himself on her!

Tom and Amy stopped by with FIVE cat posts and a bag of cat and dog toys last Friday!! These will be going out to Ishy, Abby, Dobby & Skunk, Hello Kitty & Buddy and Flo. They will be very excited!

Another kind donor, Karen, sent us pet stairs, and they are going to Fancy Face and Sara, who are having trouble getting on the bed (I suspect most of our pets sleep with us). I can’t thank our donors enough for helping us make life better for our clients and their furry family members.
