We are so lucky to have a partnership with Pet Supplies Plus - Crystal, MN—they donated 167 pounds of pet food to us last week!! That store is amazing—the store and their customers have given us 16,600 pounds of quality pet food since 2018!! We are feeding 124 cats and 34 dogs once a month and have delivered over 98,000 pounds of pet food since 2015.

Hi everyone, Some kind person just sent me a 7 # bags of IAMS Proactive health for cats from Amazon! Whoever you are, thank you. We do have a wish list on Amazon for our Food Market and Ani-Meals. If you are interested in donating, take a look at what we need. We are feeding 32 dogs now, 22 of them are under ten pounds and need Small Bites. I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine today! Here's a picture of Jethro, he died a while ago, but I still miss his adorable, happy smile...

Christmas came in an unlikely package for Deb this year! After losing her beloved Katerina in October, Deb misses the companionship of her cat but isn't ready to take on a new one. Luckily, we had the next best thing: a lifelike animatronic cat complete with purrs, meows, and movement. Upon opening the gift and hearing that first meow, Deb exclaimed "Oh, I love you too!". After cooing, testing out the included fur brush, and administering a belly rub, Deb set up a cat bed for her new companion. When asked what she would name the cat that was decidedly a "she", Deb replied "Big Fluff. Or no, maybe Blessy, like a blessing." We are so lucky that Gifts for Seniors was willing to give us the battery operated cat!

Hi everyone, two of my long-time Ani-Meals clients are in dire straits and need help. Diane and Debbie have five indoor cats and have been feeding all the feral cats around their home in an industrial area. They have been dedicated to catching feral cats and getting them spayed and neutered for years. Their mother died intestate a few years ago and they were not aware they needed to transfer ownership of the house and pay taxes. For that reason, they are delinquent in paying their taxes and face the prospect of losing their home. Trying to find subsidized housing is hopeless as the waiting lists are about 3-5 years long.

If anyone is willing to help, here is the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-diane-and-debbie-in-keeping-their-home?qid=697366d9a6f655c19d1ac291d0759cfb

We received a huge donation from Chewy yesterday!! I think we have enough small bites and Meow Mix for our November deliveries. Our generous anonymous donor included 80 Friskies cans, two large bags of regular Purina, special Tender Select Blend Salmon and some Friskies Party Mix—there will be some very happy cats!! Kitty Cat will only eat shreds, so he gets first dibs on that case. 😺

Huge thanks to everyone who donated pet food for our 9/14 Ani-Meals delivery! Our volunteers delivered 1,108 pounds of food to 147 pets! 🐾 We also helped a young couple who found a starving cat. Thanks to your generosity, we gave them cat food, a toy, collar, and a sling-style carrier to keep the cat comfy and secure. The cat left CES safe, fed, and loved—what a great day!

Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church had a Blessing of the Animals and collected 55 pounds of pet food and litter for Ani-Meals! We appreciate the generosity of Nokomis; they have been donating to Ani-Meals for a long time. Their vacation bible school has even bagged pet food for us.

We are delivering to 115 cats and 32 dogs; our monthly deliveries include:
CATS: 284 pounds of dry cat food, 600 cans of Friskies, 115 Friskies pate, 53 cans fancy feast
DOGS: 90 pounds small bites dry, 70 pounds regular dog dry and 81 cans of dog

We were receiving dry dog and cat food and kitty litter from the Animal Humane Society, but they ran into problems and can’t help any more. We are scrambling to make sure we can continue to provide food to everyone. We appreciate any help you can provide. Here’s Zelda checking out the groceries!

The Lake Harriet United Methodist vacation bible school kids packed and donated 4 HUGE boxes of cat and dog treats to Ani-Meals! We sent them out in our July delivery and many clients called to say their pets were very happy to get a big bag of treats. The kids have been donating for years. TillieBean and I even went to a Blessing of the Animals at Lake Harriet United before COVID; it was the first time she saw hamsters and cats in strollers and she was amazed!

The dogs who go to Dogtopia of Bloomington and Dogtopia of Golden Valley had a food & toy drive for us—and we got awesome stuff!! TillieBean was so impressed that she insisted on getting her picture taken with some of the toys and treats. They donated two huge cages which will go to good homes! Someone also donated the largest bone I have ever seen. Dog owners are so generous—we are delighted to have them involved with CES Ani-Meals.

Our Story

Ani-Meals: Meals on Wheels For Pets serves the people and the pets in the Minneapolis. Many people in our neighborhood are homebound, at nutritional risk, may spend much of their time in relative isolation, and are often lonely. Meals on Wheels delivered meals help, but so may a beloved pet, relieving loneliness and providing companionship.

However, feeding a pet can be expensive. An animal can literally eat into the food resources of already vulnerable people. Meals on Wheels volunteers realized that some clients were giving up a share of their delivered food to feed their companions. This meant seniors going hungry, as well as animals not receiving their proper nutrition.

Ani-Meals provides monthly, weekend deliveries of some purchased, but mainly donated pet food. This includes some specialized foods, such as canned-only, grain free, small bites, UT and diabetic for animals with more specific dietary needs. We also are trying to help with getting pets up to date on necessary shots and spaying/neutering.
