PLANT-GROW-SHARE

PLANT-GROW-SHARE A Central Neighborhood project bridging support structures for access to food and farming education. Families are also paired with a mentor.

Plant-Grow-Share works to create opportunities for the Central Neighborhood in Minneapolis to grow food, community, and personal empowerment. PLANT - Families that participate in the project are provided with the materials needed to grow their own organic raised-bed gardens. The relationship that grows between mentors and mentees provides support throughout the gardening season. GROW - Through a s

eries of workshops and gardening classes, participants gain confidence and gardening knowledge while getting to know fellow community members. Relationships, food, and skills are grown throughout the program. SHARE - As the summer progresses and the vegetables have ripened, families can contribute produce to the Little Free Farmers Market. This pop-up food cart will be biked around by volunteers every Saturday morning to share the harvest of this project with the community.

Seed Circles is a monthly volunteer evening to help maintain the Hosmer Library Community Seed Library. This is where anyone can get seeds to grow food, medicine or native plants, and for free! We receive many donations of non-genetically modified seeds, and Seed Circles is an ongoing event where you can join PGS to sort and repack seeds to share with the community.

Did you know you can grow in the snow? Winter sowing is a way of getting seeds started using recycled materials to create a habitat for them to begin growing outdoors in winter.
In January, we had our first winter sowing event, Grow in the Snow #1!
Don't worry if you missed the first one, we have Grow in the Snow #2 coming up soon on 15 February, lovingly subtitled "Winter Sowing for Sweeties". Bring along clean, empty gallon milk, water, juice or 2-litre soda bottles to create your own winter sown garden.
We'll provide the soil, seeds and a limited number of containers.

Here's an update from our friends at Minneapolis Edible Boulevards:

UPDATE ON THURSDAY WITH MINNEAPOLIS CITY COUNCIL
I just found out from my council member that there won't be a vote before city council on the boulevard ordinance tomorrow. Why? Thanks to you, there have been so many comments sent to our council members about the current proposed ordinance that the authors know they have to change it. Way to go!!! If you still have comments you want to share, send them to your council member. It sounds like February 11 is the day it'll be discussed by city council.
If you already started making signs, please keep them. We just might still need those on February 11. Stay tuned to our Minneapolis Edible Boulevards FB page for updates!
