Good afternoon, BHV friends! We have a holiday coming up in a few days that we celebrate with flowers and candy❤️. It’s important to be mindful of our pets when we bring new plants into the house and to keep any treats out of their reach. Here’s a post from AERC that we thought we should share because no one wants to spend the holiday in the emergency clinic!

Recently, we had these 2 handsome kitties, Freyr and his litter mate Uller, on the truck for dentals. We forgot to get before and after pictures of both of their mouths, but we did take photos of Freyr’s teeth prior to his cleaning and again after, and you can really see the difference it makes!

Dental health is so important and really makes a difference to a pet’s wellbeing. We recommend brushing your pet’s teeth daily, with a soft-bristled toothbrush or finger brush, but know this isn’t practical for many people and/or their animals. A professional dental cleaning, like what we can do on the truck, involves the pet being anesthetized, having full-mouth x-rays to spot any hidden problems below the gumline, followed by ultrasonic scaling and polishing of the teeth, and any extractions if needed. Bloodwork is required prior to anesthesia, to ensure the animal is healthy enough to undergo a procedure. During the procedure they are with us for a few hours on the truck, which is parked right outside of your house! After a dental, pets are usually back to normal by the very next day and, especially if they had bad dental disease, you can see quickly how much better a professional procedure can make them feel! This little lady is Lily, an 8 week old Dachshund pup! We couldn’t resist taking lots of pictures of this adorable girl at her first vet visit with us. And she was so brave for her vaccines, too! Way to go Lily!!! 🐶❤️

Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🍁 With the holiday this week we thought it was good to remind everyone what to avoid with your pets. We all want to share a special meal with our furry friend but no one wants to end up at the emergency clinic!

Blake Home Vet will be closed for the holiday from Wednesday, November 27th through Sunday, December 1st. Say Hello to the newest addition to Blake Home Vet!

Meet Melissa! Some of you may have already talked to her, if you called, texted, or emailed us within the past few weeks. She is going to be working as our receptionist, and we are so glad to have her help!

Besides being a farmer’s daughter and a life-long animal lover, Melissa went to school at the Minnesota School of Business for Veterinary Technology, which is where she met Jessica, Dr Blake’s technician, and she’s worked locally at several clinics. For pets, she currently has an English bulldog named Charlie and a goat named Kevin. She is also a mom to her daughter Abby, who keeps her busy with activities like dance and karate, and another animal lover who enjoys spending time at the family farm. When she actually has free time, Melissa enjoys fishing, hanging out with friends, and taking road trips

Giant doggo Jasmine, and the handsome orange kitty, Ashwood, are long time clients of Blake Home Vet, but we recently visited and met the two newest additions, Thunder Boom and Lightening Crash. Aren’t they all just super cute?🥰

And they were all pretty good patients, too! 😄

🎉🎉🎉 Help us in congratulating this sweet boy! Fletcher just completed treatment and has survived a disease that used to be 100% fatal!!! He was diagnosed earlier this year with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). In the past, this diagnosis was so hard because there was nothing we could do. A new drug was just finally approved and his mom went the extra mile to get it and has been giving him injections or pills daily for 3 months! He’s only 2 years old and just the sweetest boy so we knew we had to fight!! All his labs look good, his appetite is fantastic and he’s finally back to wrestling with his brother❤️. We could not be happier and we are THRILLED to celebrate this with him! Congratulations Fletcher, Jessica and I are so happy for you!!!!😍😍😍🎉🎉🎉

Meet Whisper!

This little lady was being fostered by one of our clients, so we met her previously when we went to vet the resident cat. She was recently adopted by another one of our clients, and this time we got to do an exam on her and actually spend some more time getting to know her. She’s a sweetheart! She is fitting right in with her new family, and getting along great with her new sister, Minnow. She was also an exemplary patient! We are so happy for you, Whisper, and very glad to provide your vet care!

Check out our adorable new patient, Vida!

She’s a 1O week old French Brittany Spaniel who sleeps hard and plays even harder! We loved her black and white coloring, which is unusual for the breed, who more commonly come in red and white. She also has a great personality - very friendly and boisterous! And of course, her cute little face is pretty hard to resist! She was such a brave girl for her first exam and shots. Good girl, Vida! We can’t wait to watch you grow!

This lucky guy is Kuma!

You might think he’s just having a cool treat on a hot summer’s day, but this is actually his very special treat that mom gives him whenever we visit him for vetting. We make him pretty nervous, and he doesn’t particularly like getting poked and prodded, but that ice cream cup makes it ALL worth it in the end! You can tell by his face that he’s NOT about to share any with us, however! 😝

This adorable little mixed breed pup is Fred! His big sister Penelope is thrilled with the new addition! Her mom says she is acting like a puppy again, despite being almost 10 years young! It was so cute to watch them play together today during our visit. Baby Fred got vaccines and a clean bill of health, and both he and Penelope got lots of pets and treats! Seeing cute puppies is one of the best parts of our job!!!

Meet Nemo! This 14 week-old baby Lab/Terrier mix was recently adopted by one of our longtime clients and needed a new pet exam. Seeing puppies is definitely a huge perk of our job, and Blake Home Vet was happy to heed the call! Besides being ADORABLE, Nemo was a bundle of energy, but he was very brave for his vaccines (treats helped!), and he was given a clean bill of health! We also enjoyed loving on the little guy during the visit…how could we not??? We are looking forward to caring for you, Nemo, and seeing you grow!

Meet Violet and her sister Beatrice! These pretty gals welcomed us into their home and were rockstars for their exams and vaccines! Thanks ladies! We are so glad to have you as clients!
