🐾 An Update On Morris Hometown Vets 🐾

We want to share a quick update — not just about where things stand, but how much this journey means to us

As many of you know, we’ve been working hard to bring Morris Hometown Vets to life. Our goal has always been simple: to create a space where pets, their people, and our community feel genuinely cared for. That means taking a building in need of love and giving it a full transformation — inside and out.

You may have seen our rendering — it’s the dream we’re working toward. A place built with intention, warmth, and safety at its core. But like all dreams, this one is taking time. We’re currently navigating the permitting process, and with the Route 6 expansion affecting our parking lot and logistics, we’re taking the additional, but necessary steps to ensure the highest level of safety and accommodations for our clients.

We know it’s hard to wait — especially when you’re as excited as we are to open our doors to the community. But we want to be honest with you: we’re pushing through because we believe your pets deserve the very best, and we won’t settle for anything less than perfect.

So thank you — truly — for your patience, your support, and your understanding. We feel it. And we carry it with us every day as we work toward creating something special for Morris.

🎉 Introducing: Dr. Zollars 🎊

Please welcome Dr. Zollars to our team!
A graduate of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Zollars has a special interest in surgery and internal medicine, and loves working closely with both pets and their families to provide the best care possible.

Growing up right here in Illinois, Dr. Zollars developed a passion for veterinary medicine at a young age while watching their father care for animals as a local veterinarian. That early love for animals, science, and helping people has only grown stronger over the years.

Outside of her time at Rusty Ridge, you’ll often find Dr. Zollars enjoying the outdoors with her yellow lab, Shine — hiking, biking, or spending time with family and friends — and never turning down a good game night or escape room adventure. A little fun fact: thanks to a strong family background in aviation, Dr. Zollars can recognize just about any commercial airplane at a glance!

Dr. Zollars looks forward to getting to know you and your pets and being part of their health and happiness for years to come!

It’s been a crazy week of cases!

Did you know that Blastomycosis, Aspergillosis, and Histoplasmosis are naturally found in our environment around the Midwest? These fungal infections can affect both pets and humans, and while they often start subtly—a mild cough, a lingering wound, or a slight change in behavior—they can become serious if left undetected.

🌾 Blastomycosis
Found in moist soil, especially near water or decaying wood. Pets inhale spores, and symptoms can mimic common issues: coughing, skin lesions, limping, or even vision problems. It’s often mistaken for pneumonia early on.

🍂 Histoplasmosis
Thrives in soil with bird or bat droppings. Pets can inhale spores while digging or playing outside. It can affect multiple organ systems if left untreated.

🍃 Aspergillosis
This fungus is widespread in the environment and often affects the nasal passages of pets—especially long-nosed breeds.

🩺 Early detection is key!
Routine exams and diagnostics are the BEST way to catch these infections before they become life-threatening. If your pet is showing any changes—big or small—please call your favorite veterinary team - Prevention and awareness save lives

🚨Started the week with a bang! 🚨

This sweet pup came in to see Dr. Joe after suddenly refusing to use one of her legs—no trauma reported, no warning signs, just a spontaneous limp that had everyone scratching their heads

Turns out, she had a pretty wild injury to her distal femur—but have no fear, our surgical team was quick to jump into action!

A successful surgery later, and this brave girl is already on the road to recovery (and hopefully done with the shenanigans for a while 😉)

As many of you know, we recently welcomed a second location into our family following the retirement of a beloved local veterinarian. At a time when corporate chains are buying up hometown clinics left and right, we’re proud to stand as the 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀.

As part of our continued commitment to the community—and with the ongoing expansion of Route 6—we’re working closely with the City of Morris to ensure that our new parking lot is safe, accessible, and thoughtfully designed. But it doesn’t stop there: we’re updating the entire clinic from top to bottom to offer more services, and even more care to our community and your pets. Every update we make reflects the high standards that have earned us your trust, your votes, and your support year after year.

We’re proud to grow, but never at the expense of the values that brought us here.

A couple different type of removals for Dr. Joe & the crew!

A large 18 cm mass removal for one doggo and a surprise multiple foreign body removal for another 🤯

Thankfully both doing well and on the road to recovery!

This fluffy kitty came to see Dr. Joe for a surgical consult for a slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). While this condition can be incredibly painful, correction by completing a Femoral Head Ostectomy was chosen to provide this kitty much needed relief!

Surgery went well, and the road to recovery is underway for our furry friend as she has already regained full range of motion and is back to her mischievous self! ❤️
