With kitten season staying hot and heavy, we decided to look for new ways to bring attention to all of the adorable kittens we have available - and what better way than finding cool spots in the Chicagoland area - like Forepaws in Minooka, IL - to bring some of our kittens for you to meet and potentially to adopt.

Itchy, red feet?
Let's get some relief!

TIPS:
*Wipe feet - especially skin between toes and nail beds - every time dogs come inside.
*Apply a healing balm to reduce further damage and itch.
*If there are any wounds or open skin, make sure the area stays clean! Apply a medicated antiseptic spray or ointment. Cover the area with a loose-fitting boot for a few days, applying ointments throughout each day.
*Start giving a GOOD antihistamine! Daily. Every day. Get dosage from a vet or trusted source!

Attention: A (fantastic) customer found this sweet girl wandering, tired and hot up in the Aurora area.
He brought her home for a much-needed rest and brush out! The rescuer lives in Minooka.
Please share her photo in hopes of tracking down her owner! (Aurora PD have been notified. She was scanned and does not have a microchip.)

Guess what time of year it is?!?!
Flea season!!! And it only gets worse once the field mice are scared out of the crops!

Yep. These little buggers (see what I did there?) are fleas. The middle one is magnified to show his awesome glory.

These are all (now) dead fleas, taken off a kitten that was left at the store today. The poor kitten was covered(!!!) in the fleas, but the rescuers didn't even see them until I did!

Fleas are tiny. Hard to see. And very good and scurrying away.

Fleas have a 2 week life cycle and love to breed in carpet/fabric. Killing them once is usually not enough.

Fleas are also the main source for pets to get tapeworms (by eating the fleas).

Gross gross gross gross gross. Ewe.

Please please please use preventative medicines to mitigate the risk of your pet's getting the dreaded flea!

Please keep in mind that, although our business is located near the school, our parking lot is NOT for student pickup!!!

Not only does it prevent customers from entering/exiting/parking, but it also creates a safety concern for those customers and your students/kids!!

In the past, parents have created many accidents!!

Our lot is small and meant for CUSTOMERS (and employees) of Forepaws and Taco Fixx ONLY!

Please be mindful and use the school student pickup lines as directed!

Let's talk bone safety!

Both cooked and raw bones can splinter, but cooked bones are more likely to do so because the cooking process removes moisture and makes them more brittle. Cooked chicken and turkey bones are especially likely to splinter.

That being said, there is a HUGE difference between splintering and normal chew degradation of a natural bone!

No matter what, everything depends upon your dog's chew pattern and strength, and NEVER leave your dog unattended with a bone!

Forepaws does not carry any bone that is cooked - only pet-safe bones that are processed without decreasing bone density, or raw bones!!

The above photo is a normal chew pattern of a bone. When larger parts of the bone may or may not break off, it is time to toss the bone! Same with if it gets too small or the dog becomes possessive!

Holy moly! Today was an exhausting day without power!
Thank you to everyone that still stopped by and supported us (even on Prime day - I know, the allure is unbearable sometimes)! We still do not have power, but, we figured out how to run today without it, and we will do it again tomorrow! We can still take cards or cash or apple/android pay as payment!!!
As of right now, all of our frozen foods or supplements are not at the store, but easily accessible. Please be patient as we all weather this "storm after the storm" together!

We had so much fun last night at the Bluey and Paw Patrol Party at Woods of Aux Sable Park! Event! It was a long (very chaotic) night of making pinwheels that I hope your kids enjoy!
I am so proud to say we go so close to our goal to donate the cost for adoption for Casper!

Casper is a 2yr old Aussie mix that has been at JTAC for a while now without ANY interest. He is high energy, love playing catch and is great with people - but not other pets.
His adoption fee is $60, and we made it to $50 with donations last night (yes, I am covering the last $10, of course).

Wanted to give a shout out to Families of Faith Christian Academy in Channahon.
We had a large number of camp kiddos come through for a quick tour and kitty love time last month.

Thank you for coming in and giving such great, gentle attention to our birds and cats! We hope the students enjoyed their time!

I love doing tours for our community - and yes, I am fully aware the kids usually only want to see the cats, but I do try my best to slip in a little knowledge first!

After all: knowledge begins with our children! Teaching about proper animal care, nutrition, and the benefits of rescue is the whole reason I started this journey so many years ago!
