Playing a game of tug every now and then is a good and healthy way for a dog to get rid of excess energy. However, for mouthy dogs, avoid playing too roughly. If they begin to get too rough or overly mouthy, drop the toy and don't play again until they calm down a little bit. Sometimes it can make the mouthiness worse.

Cleo hasn't quite learned how to use her back legs yet, so we're slowly working on it! She's not the biggest fan of the car, but we used treats to get her up onto the backseat. She's still pretty wary of getting out, as well. With some time, dedication, and lots of tasty encouragement, cleo is making progress!

Cleo is no longer afraid of the leash has been doing AMAZING! We let her drag it around for about a week to get used to having it on, and her mom wore it to cover it in her scent to make it a more comforting item. I'm so proud of her for overcoming her fear, and I'm also proud of her pet parents for taking the steps to help their sweet girl!

Cooper has been making significant progress! We taught him how to wait for treats.
Wait is also great for using with the vehicle, especially if you live in a highly populated city or live in an area that has high traffic. We want to make sure that we have a secure grasp of the leash AND check for traffic before we allow the dog to exit the vehicle.
A lot of people also use "wait" for doorways, that way there's a lesser chance we will be tripped by the dog barreling in behind us. This decreases the odds of us or the dog getting hurt.

Blondie has been improving with her "stay," and learning her release word, "break."
Some people like myself and Blondie's mom choose to use the verbal cue "stay." Other trainers and pet parents may prefer to use the implied stay, not saying "stay" after giving the dog a cue to sit or lay down. With the implied stay, the dog must stay in the position he/she is told until they are given a release word or told to perform another cue.
You may have also noticed that I prefer to use the word "cue" instead of "command." I don't like to think of myself as commanding my dogs to do something. They are given the choice to perform the cue I give to them, and they are rewarded when they do so, but not punished when they choose not to sit like I asked. It's all in perception and personal preference!

Aurora has a tendency to bark at people and other dogs when they walk by the yard, so we're working on teaching her the "leave it" cue to get her to turn her attention elsewhere when people walk by.
