Before and after pictures of a buck with a mystery hole in the skull. Was it an antler injury, a bullet, a tumor? Whatever it was, it prevented the skull from fusing together properly. So unique!

This bear skull turned out great!

Doing a European mount isn’t as simple as just throwing the skull in with the beetles. All skulls have grease and fat, all of which needs to be removed before whitening. This degreasing process is essential to get a skull to turn out white with no yellowing/staining. This picture shows how much grease and fat there is on a bear skull. This is before/after degreasing and whitening

Ever wonder what the difference is between an antelope “horn” and a deer “antler”? Deer lose their antlers every year and regrow a new set. With antelope, the horn itself is part of the skull. The black outer sheath is shed yearly and regrown. So when doing taxidermy on an antelope, you have to remove the sheath to clean the meat/tissue along the bone. Then the sheath gets re-attached at the end.
