Too many being re-homed or dumped because of pure laziness or not wanting to put in the work!
👉🏻 It’s not our puppy’s fault!
‼️ We can’t be mad at our puppies for the things we didn’t teach them.
🐶 Just because your puppy can do it in your house or backyard doesn’t mean they can do it in the neighborhood and out in public.
🔸 In order to get reliable skills from your puppy you need to create solid foundations in less distracting areas.
🔹 Then you need to practice around mild distractions.
⚠️ Not only that, but you have to practice in other places besides your living room and backyard.
🐶 If you want your puppy to walk nicely in the park with kids running around, other dogs nearby, squirrels moving about, and other people walking past you, then you have to practice, practice, practice to set solid foundations with no distractions and then work your way up to higher distractions in various locations.
🔸 If you want your puppy come when call when you call then EVERY time, no matter what’s going on outside then you need to practice for those moments.
‼️ Your puppy is physically unable to come when there is a squirrel, people, good smells on the ground, or other dogs because they haven’t been taught how to come in those moments.
🔹 Just because your puppy comes running from the other room when you call them doesn’t mean they have the understanding to come in every scenario you wan them to.
🔸 A stellar recall starts with laying solid foundations with no distractions and practicing next level games with low distractions. Only increasing the difficulty with bigger distractions and other locations when your puppy is ready.
