Genetics are super cool! One of the fun parts of breeding is learning all the different genes and how each progress both on their own, and in combination with other genes. One of the coolest genetic progressions is the Super Arctic gene. Arctic is an incomplete dominant trait that shows one form with one allele, and a super form with both alleles. Pictured below is the Super form. All three pictures are of the same animal at different stages of progression. At birth, they’re almost black which transitions to a dark brown over the first few weeks. Then, after a single growth shed, the background turns white while the pattern stays black! 😍
