Which of the 3 would be the hardest test for your dog?? We had some special visitors today and we took turns working with all the trainees on calm greetings but this girl takes the cake. She has made so much progress with obedience and confidence and just learning how to be a dog after a really rough start in life 🥲. We love this girl - she’s overall calm and gentle but she’s also very expressive- always wagging her tail and making great eye contact! Why do you think she yawned here? Dogs yawn for a lot of reasons… tiredness… but also to diffuse a tense social situation or in response to various emotions: anxiety, confusion, frustration or a shift in a state of arousal. We see it a lot in training- when accompanied by lip-licking and other anxious behaviors, the dog is likely feeling overwhelmed with training and we need to slow down or shift tactics. But Shiloh seemed to be having a nice time at Tractor Supply— lots of sniffing, relaxed body posture and tail wagging. Good girl to our private trainee, Lucy!! 😌 A few tips… ❣️ don’t start with ducks 😂… rather work in a low distraction environment at home to start ❣️we like to put a closed bag of treats placed on the floor — the dog will sniff at it but not be able to get a treat immediately (well unless they’re a lab and then you should use a toy instead of a treat bag 🤣) ❣️ say “leave it!” And show the dog an actual treat in your hand and reward when they turn away from the treat bag toward your hand instead ❣️repeat this exercise in different rooms of your house and with different items of interest until your dog understands the cue and consistently turns toward you when he hears “leave it” ❣️you can now gradually lengthen the time between your “leave it” cue and actually rewarding with a treat… taking a few steps away while your dog follows to get the treat is huge for developing a true “leave it” that will work in the real world (like at a duck pond!) #therapydogbreeder #servicedogbreeder #rescuepoodle #therapydogintraining #therapydogsofinstagram #cavapoos_of_instagram #f1bcavapoo #puppyculturepuppies #puppyculture #therapydogbreeder #nokennels #traineddogsarehappydogs #standardpoodlesofinstagram #cavapoo #reputablebreeder #raisingpuppiesright #poodlelove #poodlegram #poodle #redpawfarm

This girl 💕 (40 lb, 3 years old, labradoodle) Shiloh been a big encouragement to us - proof that our program works. She was a kennel dog and came to us very underweight and under socialized with zero manners or any idea how to live in a house. But talk about progress!!! Shiloh has made HUGE strides with training and is overall a delight of a dog. Oh and she’s gotten much more patient with waiting for treats as you can see here 😆 Shiloh is looking for her new family!! She is good with kids and cats. Two of our current rescue-trainees— Teddy and Mocha! These two have not met before so we used it as an opportunity to practice CGC test item #8. We work hard with these dogs daily and it is so rewarding when we see progress. If you’ve followed us for a while you’ll remember our love bug, Penny the cavalier. She retired after only one litter due to a rough delivery / recovery experience.
