You can’t make this stuff up 😂🐾. We just got a dog surrendered by the name of Cindy Lou… what perfect timing 🎄🐾😆. And is it just us or is there an uncanny resemblance with the real Cindy Lou Who??

Cindy Lou is a 2 (almost 3)- year-old poodle. She weighs 40 lbs. She came to us as a breeder surrender- she’s had a couple prior litters and is ready to retire on somebody’s couch.

She just arrived yesterday so we are still assessing her temperament - so far she’s timid, but very sweet and compliant ♥️. We are excited to see her confidence blossom as we get training underway.

This is one of those pictures that is worth a thousand words for us.

This is Keeva in her new home. We were equal parts happy and sad dropping her off today- very conflicting emotions 😅. But what we can say for sure is this girl deserves all the love she’s going to get, and we have zero regrets about getting her wiggly bum out of a crowded shelter even if it took longer than expected to get her adopted. Proud of you, Keeva girl.

It’s official 💙🎉… this boy will be part of our breeding program. We don’t take these decisions lightly and have evaluated several breeding program candidates that did not end up making the cut. But this boy is the total package 📦 🐾

Axel (now called Marcel by his guardian mom to match his gentlemanly, bow-tie-wearing ways 😆) will be a future dad for us. He passed his genetic testing and OFAs (CHIC # coming soon!) and we love his oh-snuggly-temperament. He’s a typical poodle- LOVES fetch and adventures but also knows how to take a serious nap… preferably on a person.
Axel passed the CGC, too- showing what a poised, obedient boy he is in public. We hope to add some more titles and possibly even a therapy dog certification in the future.

Happy Thanksgiving from our little crew!
(Rocco, Chance, Axel, Cadence/Cocoa, Echo and our foster-Keeva) and the one little human, Hattie 😆!

We are thankful for the laughs, snuggles, loyalty, protection, and overall companionship that these dogs bring to our lives.

The face of the future 😁!

That’s miss Cadence (called Cocoa) sitting in front of her parents. She’s our keeper girl from Echo/Rocco and shes stunning 💕. And it’s time to start featuring her more as she’s growing up fast and will be ready to be a mom in another year-ish.
We are excited to keep this line going in the future through Cadence (pending health testing and temperament assessment, of course!)

Coming to a park near you 😁!

During our “off time” from puppies we want to get out in the community more because 1. socialization and training are always ongoing so it’s great for our parent dogs (Echo and Rocco on the left!) and 2. It’s great exposure for our rescues (Keeva on the right who thought this was the best idea ever 😆) and 3. It’s just a fun way to meet people and talk about dogs!! We get to hear about everyone’s fur babies and talk about the different jobs / tasks dogs can do.

Anyways… anyone in the Charlotte area have some good ideas for us- I.e. dog-friendly places with a lot of foot traffic. (This was Crooked Creek park in Indian trail). Comment where you’d like to see us next below 👇

🎄🐾 Home for the Holidays Special 🐾🎄

It has been a rough second half of the year. Prior to the last 6 months we had only ever had one dog returned in 4 years … but something’s in the water because we’ve had a slew of returns the second half of the year (last dog listed- Keegan- is the most recent). Sometimes things happen that we can’t predict but still it’s discouraging as our number one goal is to get our rescues in their forever homes and we put our heart and soul into training and loving these babies.

We’ve also had Keeva since the end of July and feel so sad we haven’t found her a family of her own yet. Thankfully she’s probably one of the most adaptable dogs on the planet 😂 so she’s going to be just fine 💚.

So please… share this post, maybe someone wants a big dog under their tree this year 😉. And for what it’s worth, if Keeva finds a home by Christmas, we will send her home in her elf costume 😁.

It’s been WAY too long without a Penny post 😂! Penny is our sweet cavalier mama who we have sadly retired after only one litter due to a really tough motherhood experience. It’s one of those heart-wrenching decisions as a breeder … we adore this dog so much and she checked all of our other boxes for breeding (and there are a lot of boxes!!) But this is what is best for her- no doubt about it.

And clearly Penny is no worse for the wear… still the same goofy angel! Here she is desperately trying to convince us she needs second breakfast… would you give it to her??

So many snuggles… and also ball is life.

Ginger is still looking for her new home. She’s a standard poodle- 42 lbs, 2 years old (will be 3 in January- did you know Ginger and Brooke have the same birthday?!), and spayed/up to date on vet care.

Do you have a lap and a tennis ball? If so Ginger might just be the girl for you 💚

2 Levi posts in a row because he is seriously the bestest boy 🥹! He did it!!! He passed the CGC test and made it look like an absolute breeze. We are so proud of his poise in public and excited for his future as a hopeful service dog!

And P.S. for anyone following our stories… Ginger is feeling a lot better after some fluids and meds at the vet 😉. Most of the time our spays/neuters are uneventful but occasionally somebody has a much tougher time. But give it a week and Ginger will be back to catching frisbees!

Keeva is still here 😭.

Keeva is so incredibly non-aggressive … she is silly and playful but will immediately back off and actually de-escalate the situation if another dog gets “grumpy” with her.

And she loves, loves, LOVES people of all ages.

She’s super smart and easy to train, too.

She is somebody’s perfect companion… we just know it. Thank you to all who shared our last post about her and keep doing it 💚

Another testimonial post for the poodles 💙.

One thing that we talk about a lot with our poodles is intuition. The breed is INCREDIBLE when it comes to this sort of sixth sense about their humans. They are highly intelligent, sensitive, alert to changes in the environment, routines, etc. and keenly aware of human emotion. The result is a perceptive dog who can make connections beyond what they’ve been trained to do. It’s one of those innate qualities that really can’t be trained - and certainly the “icing on the cake” when it comes to the service and therapy dog temperaments that we aim to produce.

Is it too soon for Christmas??? Not if you’re Levi’s new family 😁. Levi is a 3 - year-old mini Australian labradoodle (our first of this breed in the program! It’s a mix of cocker spaniel, lab, and poodle)

We’ve mentioned Levi a couple of times but haven’t formally introduced him. Levi is one of those rare gems 💎- a lot of times the dogs we get in rescue come from tough backgrounds and/or need A LOT of training to become a well-mannered companion. But not Levi… Levi had an absolutely amazing family who trained him and socialized him, but unfortunately they were faced with a couple of tragedies and were forced to surrender him. It was heartbreaking on multiple levels, and a good reminder to not judge people for rehoming their dog without knowing the full story 💔. Levi was truly loved.

On the bright side, because Levi had a head start with training (and an amazing temperament!!) we feel really confident in his ability as a service dog. And that’s where he’s headed… he’s been reserved by a family on our waiting list. We typically contact our applicants prior to introducing a dog on social media- so if you’re interested in a future trainee from us, go ahead and apply today to be added to our list (no deposit or commitment needed).

We got a little carried away with “pre-Halloween”… we’ve been dressing everyone up all week in sweater vests, bandanas, etc.
Just wait until Thursday when the real costumes come out 😆

Sharing all these cuties and updating everyone on our available dogs… Scout is now reserved as is our newest trainee, Levi ❤️!

But Ginger will be joining us as a foster-trainee - she’s a 2 year old female standard poodle.

And our sweet Pretzel is back up for grabs … this guy is the TOTAL package. 1 year old goldendoodle, 39 lbs, and so so gentle and calm… an absolute rare gem of a doodle. He is well-trained and polite… and on top of all of his basic commands, he also knows how to strike a modeling pose 😂. This was his immediate reaction to wearing a hat.

(And for anyone who doesn’t know- Echo and Rocco are two of our parent dogs so they’re permanently reserved as well 😉)

Case and point of a picture that’s worth a thousand words 🥳🥳🥳. Seems like nothing much is going on… and that’s exactly what is AMAZING about it!

Our current rescue-trainee, Cooper (and goldendoodle pup-in-training, Molly) did “place” during an entire mealtime with kiddos and all sorts of distractions and yummy smells.

We’ve been working hard to help Cooper find his “off switch” - he’s a happy, goofy boy without any prior training but look at him doing absolutely nothing now 😁!!

Keeva is one of the most photogenic dogs we’ve had here. She knows how to turn on the charm!…. And she did just that recently when meeting a potential adoptive family. And guess what… it worked 🥳🥳🥳. Keeva has a new home lined up and we are SO HAPPY for her. She deserves all the love coming her way.

Training Tip Tuesday! Dog body language is incredible- they can say so much without any words! Sometimes dog play can be difficult to distinguish from dog fighting or even just an mismatch of play/energy styles. We breakdown this video to give you some clues. P.S. this is one of the big reasons we send our poodles home with natural tails- A docked tail can hamper dog communication! Cocoa is one of our own puppies so she’s got a full, fluffy tail! During this video, her tail remains high and loose the whole time and it’s easy to see! We’ve been working on mastering the catch aspect of this trick for a while 👏🏼😁! Rocco just applied for his second trick dog title… it’s one of those little things that separates breeders. There’s nothing crazy special about trick dog titles - they are relatively easy to get especially if you have the 🧠 of a poodle! But it does show that we spend a lot of time with our dogs and that’s what matters the most to us. We could almost guarantee that a dog with a couple trick titles is not living in a filthy kennel at a puppy mill. Levi has been a trainer’s dream! He’s already passed the CGC but is working on some “extras” such as longer down-stays in public as he will soon go on to be a service dog for his new family. Levi LOVES his snackies so this took lots of good boy energy… but thankfully Levi has plenty of that 💚. This is Chance (one of our parent dogs) meeting his new bff 😆. She cried when he left… it was true love. But in all seriousness, this has always been our goal with breeding… to produce dogs that are “bombproof” with all humans, which can be a challenge with the tinier breeds (often known for being touch-sensitive / reactive). Socialization is part of the equation, but genetics matter, too- The only way to produce the temperament we want in our pups is to start with bombproof parents! We took Chance to a new house with multiple kids petting him and while we did supervise carefully, we weren’t concerned about how he might react in the slightest! He sat there longer than most people could have 🤣. We have loved Levi - he has been a breath of fresh air in the rescue-training program. We missed Tuesday but we’ll give training tips all the days of the week 😉. “My dog won’t stay more than a couple of seconds” “My dog gets up as soon as there is a distraction” … Then do it again! Our correction is super simple- a negative verbal marker and then we redirect the dog back to “place” or the spot of the stay. If the dog isn’t redirecting easily, you can use a leash to reposition. Use your negative marker the second the dog starts to get up (a few steps later and you’re too late). There’s no need for frustration or to offer a treat again (until dog successfully completes the stay)… just a simple but firm redirect. And repeat. Over and over for however many times it takes. Sometimes early on in the process we may correct and put the dog back in a stay quite a few times, but patience pays off. Eventually the dog learns there is simply no point in getting up until he’s released. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again… other dogs are our best trainers!!! Our new (hopeful) poodle sire (eh still working on that name 🤓- currently calling him Axel which was the name he came with) is working on some training. His “stay” was decent during his first public outing, but it improved greatly with our seasoned Echo to show him the ropes. It goes both ways - dogs can teach each other bad manners, too. We typically recommend that your first dog be where you want him/her in regards to training before adding a second. Who’s this??? We are evaluating a new moyen poodle male as a potential addition to the breeding program to breed with Rocco’s daughter in the future. We are super picky about the temperaments of our poodles - our top goal from our poodle lines is service and therapy work and we really believe a lot of temperament is genetic so we work hard to find the right pairings in our program. We have washed a few poodles in the past for temperament flaws or failing OFAs… so the jury is still out on this boy, but so far so good ❤️… starting with some basic training and just building a bond and so far we love what we see 💚. Missing our Piper, but thankful for our other dogs… not the least of which is the queen herself (Echo 👑 ). We posted the first video back in the spring… taken as Brooke arrived home from a jog to a familiar scene… it was a Piper classic- she loved waiting on the front porch and coming up the driveway with that big pittie smile and wagging tail as soon as she recognized Brooke. Well… fast forward… Piper crossed the rainbow bridge in July. We miss her deeply and always will but the beauty of dogs is that they are all truly individuals … but also share some common positive traits- like that warm, happy greeting 💕. Echo greeted Brooke from a run today… and it felt beautifully nostalgic.
