It might sound like it's a broken record with how many times you hear the welfare of homeless cats and dogs is dire, but it's true.
The pendulum has swung back these past years to record numbers of animals needing homes.π²
So, what can you do about it? Lots!
Make sure your pet doesn't contribute to the need and if you have it in your ability to give another pet a loving home - ADOPT or FOSTER.
Help your pet not get lost by keeping a collar with ID tags on and microchip your pet. That's setting them up for success to get back home to you should they get out and keeping them out of the animal welfare system.
Spay/neuter your pet and community cats to keep litters from adding to the homeless pet problem.
Adopt from your local animal control shelters and rescues.
Don't purchase from a breeder while there are shelter and rescue pets that need homes. Just have to have that one type of breed? A loving pet is a loving pet, whether it has long hair, short hair, is giant or tiny, or what color it is. Pet's are living, breathing beings in need; not fashion accessories.
BISSELL Pet Foundation is sponsoring low-cost to no cost adoptions at tons of shelters near you from December 1 to December 17. Check out where here: https://www.bissellpetfoundation.org/programs/empty-the-shelters/
And check out Petfinder.com and Adopt a Pet for animals in need of homes today. Any cost you pay to a rescue/shelter helps cover the cost of that pet's veterinary care and living expenses while being cared for. Only seems fair!
Thank you for opening your mind and heart to a pet in need!
