I have no words to express how helpless and disillusioned I feel right now. We always try to have hope that our lost souls, the ones that are so often overlooked have the opportunity for a second chance. But sadly, we live in a society where people sometimes lack the patience and compassion needed for dogs, like Lilo and stitch,,Cindy, Adele, sugar, and our sweet and precious special needs dog Liam.
I have always been very transparent with potential adopters above the personality of each of these dogs . It makes it harder for them to get adopted, but it’s even more heartbreaking when somebody gives them a chance and then returns them. They deserve time to decompress, adapt to their new surroundings, And to be given the unconditional love that they deserve.
For this reason, I made a very difficult decision last night to close intakes until most of these dogs find their forever home. Some of us in the rescue me included are going through difficult health conditions, and the stress is just killing us. We need time to decompress, and to focus on these special Dogs to help make them more adoptable.
It was a difficult decision to make, especially during times like these when dogs are being dumped in the street and owners are constantly surrendering them. The shelters are full and many of them close for intake, which puts a huge pressure on Rescue groups.
I hope those of you reading this will try to understand that these particular dogs have not been given a good foundation from the start, and therefore they have to endure the struggles that they deal with each and every day. But we will not lose hope for them because we are all they have and until they find that match, we will give them the love and understanding that they deserve.
