So often people ask me… “How can you foster?” “Don’t you get attached?” “Doesn’t it break your heart to say goodbye?” I have been fostering dogs for the past 11 years. I have fostered and helped pregnant moms deliver babies, I have fostered dogs that are sick and need time to heal, I have fostered seniors that are abandoned at the shelter or in the street by their owners because they no longer want to deal with the challenges that come with old age. I have fostered dogs that have been used for breeding and never have known the touch of a human or the feeling of love.

Yes! It’s tough not to fall in love, Yes! I have foster failed multiple times but only once with a puppy. The reason I keep doing it is because the reward of seeing a once broken dog have a second chance at living an amazing life in a loving forever home is SO much more gratifying than any heartbreak we could ever feel because we had to let go.

The reality is that there are more dogs in need of a loving foster home than people willing to foster. When you foster a dog, it is not much different than when you raise a child. When you raise a child you give them love, shelter, teachers them right from wrong and yes you one day watch them grow and let them go to live their best life. You are their stepping stone to their future life.
Fostering is all the same. The main difference is that when you let go you open up space to make a difference in another dog’s life.

The memories and experiences we have shared with so many of our rescue dogs will remain in my heart forever. Reflecting in the past 10 years of RP4FH all the cuddles, tears, hardships, sacrifices, heartbreaks, I would do it all over again in a blink. Yesterday my sweet Livvy (now Emma) left to her furever home with her new daddy Antonios. Thank you for making the decision to fill your heart and your home again with our sweet girl. After watching this spunky baby from birth until the firecracker she has become my heart is very full to see her go to an amazing home. 💗

Meet Sookie! 🐾
Age: 8 months | Breed: Poodle | Special Needs: Vision Impaired
Sookie is a sweet, playful 8-month-old poodle who is looking for her forever home! She may not be able to see much, but she certainly knows how to enjoy life and has a heart full of joy. ❤️
Sookie suffered trauma to her eye shortly after birth, likely from her siblings, and as a result, both of her eyes don’t provide her much vision—she mostly sees shadows. But don’t worry! She’s learned to navigate the world around her just fine and is super playful and friendly. She’s been to an eye doctor, and while no surgery is needed, she will need drops in one of her eyes for life as she has a dry eye. She will also benefit from an eye supplement to slow the process of losing her eyesight completely. Despite these sad challenges she’s perfectly happy with her little world.
Despite her vision challenges, Sookie is potty-trained (though she might have the occasional mistake, so regular potty breaks 2-3 times a day keep her on track).

Her Personality:
    •    Shy but Sweet: Sookie is a bit shy at first but once she warms up, she’s a total lovebug. She’s great with people, kids, and other dogs.
    •    Active and Playful: Sookie LOVES her toys and would be happiest in a home where she can have plenty to play with!
    •    Foodie: Her favorite snacks are carrots, strawberries, and blueberries. She’s definitely got a sweet tooth!
    •    Sunbather Extraordinaire: She loves to bask in the sun, so a sunny spot in her new home would make her a very happy girl.
Sookie’s Needs & Preferences:
    •    Not a Walker: She’s not too fond of walks and would much prefer being carried around or even getting a stroller for outdoor adventures.
    •    Sensitive Soul: She gets easily startled by loud noises (like thunder or cars), so a calm and understanding household would be ideal for her.

What an AMAZING week it has been here at Rescue Paws. We had 3 adoptions to 3 amazing families. Lennon and London both found their forever homes with families with 2 kids they could grow up with and spend endless hours of playtime with. Papo our other cutie pie also found his forever home with a lovely couple who I know will give him many years of love and kisses. Stay tuned for more adoptions coming soon (I can feel it).
