This memory came up today from 2020:

“Went to visit my sweet Katya today. She’s doing so well and is in such a loving home now. Kyle was eager to tag along to visit her, and she was quite happy to see us. ❤️”

When my son was growing up, he was my biggest fan. He used to always say, “Thank you for what you do for dogs, Mom.”

I would literally melt — it’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard.

That’s why, when everything was taken from us, he fully understood my need to be away from the family and try to fix things. I couldn’t be more proud of the son I raised, and I know this love for dogs will always carry through him.

Amidst the horror, wild man Rosco successfully underwent surgery on each broken femur. He even managed to take a few steps today, after dragging himself around the past week.

Rosco is going to require an adopter smart enough to deal with his antics. With two broken femurs, he managed to escape the vet kennels and was found wandering around the halls. He also escaped the shelter kennels, and opened his front door at home, resulting in being struck by an oncoming vehicle.

🐾 Posted in 2018, wanted to share becuase it made me chuckle how determined he was! 💙

I wonder how Roscoe is today?!

Chiclet’s shelter picture always cracks me up! She was scheduled for euthanasia due to urinating blood (UTI) and had the goofiest teeth of any dog we’d rescued—hence the name! I was genuinely shocked when I saw the last picture of her and said, “Wait, oh my god, she’s actually stunning,” but that was already after I agreed to rescue her 🩷

She was picked up from the shelter and delivered to boarding, but not before the volunteer drove her to McDonald’s for a nice hamburger. Oh, you should have seen the social media outrage:

“I hope it didn’t have onions.”
“That’s not healthy for dogs.”

Ah, the joys of rescue!

Attention please 🙏

If you saw the video of the dog pooping in the Happy Birthday bag, you’re looking at the pooper. Despite his grotesque ways, he’s actually quite beautiful!

I rescued Roshan a couple of years ago under Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue, and he was adopted into a wonderful home. His dad loved him very much, so I was surprised to learn recently that he’d been left at the shelter. It seems something urgent came up, but he was heartbroken to leave Roshan behind. He was well cared for, and both the boarding and vet staff had nothing but great things to say about him.

It’s now been several weeks since he rejoined our rescue, and it’s time we find him what I hope will be his forever home.

As far as Mals go, he’s a moderately easy dog. Walks and cuddles are his favorite, and he’s good with kids and other non-dominant dogs. We don’t feel apartment life is right for him, but otherwise, he can adapt almost anywhere.

His foster has travel plans next month, so I’m really hoping we can get him into a new home soon. Foster-to-adopt options will be considered!

We estimate Roshan to be middle-aged, and he’s currently located in Virginia Beach. Check the comments to see what a sad boy he was when he was originally rescued from Texas in 2023.

Wait—his new name is Raiden!

Please share this boy to get all eyes on him!

FOSTER/ADOPTER NEEDED ASAP 🙏

Name: Raiden (formerly Roshan)
Current Location: Virginia Beach

Where did he come from?
Raiden was originally at PVAS in South Texas. He was rescued by Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue in 2023, adopted, and later surrendered to the shelter in 2025. He has since been reclaimed by SSR and is now available.

Is he good with kids, cats, or dogs?
Raiden does well with dog-savvy kids, is generally uninterested in cats (though he may give chase if they run, just for fun), and gets along with non-dominant dogs.

Describe his personality:
Raiden is playful, sweet, affectionate, and super goofy. He uses all three brain cells trying to be the best boy. He may test new people to see if he has to listen, so a consistent owner is important.

What would be a good home for him?
A home with a yard would be ideal. Raiden is very vocal, which is the only reason apartment living may not work well for him.

Best thing about Raiden?
His sweetness and goofiness. He’s also potty trained and has started obedience training.

Most challenging thing about Raiden?
His barking. He’s usually quiet, but when he gets going, he tends to bark consistently.

Any behavioral concerns?
Just the barking—otherwise, he’s an easy dog, especially for a Mal.

If anyone can help this SSR pup, her mama would appreciate it. Sug was one of our few local saves—rescued from a breeder who had his dogs in filthy kennels for the sole purpose of breeding. Once he was done with them, they were of no use anymore.

From today’s Facebook memories. Only 8 months in, we’d already rescued our 196th dog.

Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue was such a phenomenal rescue—I still grieve the loss and impact we made on thousands of lives.

Hello, is there any rescues or anyone who would be willing to take in this German shepherd. He is a male and is a year old. He does not belong to me, I saw someone post him for adoption and went to go see him. He is very sweet & calm and looked like he just needed more attention and care. He is also very good with other dogs, small and big. She is not asking a rehoming fee because she said it is urgent that she rehomes him. She mentioned that if she cannot rehome him soon, then unfortunately she will have to take him to the shelter. I told her that I would try my best to find a rescue or someone who would be willing to take him so that he doesn’t end up in the shelter. If interested please let me know and I can pass the owners information along!
