It is with a saddened heart that I write this; we learned that our puppies have a gene called Spinal Dyraphism which is a genetic disorder from Weimaraners. Some of the puppies have the effects, others do not. Each puppy is affected differently, and some are perfectly healthy and not affected at all. Nate, for example, uses his legs but doesn't depend on them. He is going to be a special puppy who will have to accommodate for his disability. Puppies can show signs up to eight weeks, the vet said, if a puppy doesn't show any signs by then, then it will not be affected by the gene. However the puppy is at eight weeks the vet says will stay that way the rest of their lives and it will never get worse. Little Bit, the runt, has the worst of the disabilities. She doesn't know she is different, though, she is spunky and can hold her own with the other pups. She makes great sleeping noises and loves to snuggle. Rocky, bunny hops but his back legs lag when he is eating. Addy and Zed have shown no signs at this point. The puppies are healthy. They eat, p**p, and play like they are normal puppies. We are sad to see this genetic ordeal but the puppies are not sad. They will need forever homes to care for and love them. We have just learned that the mom and dad have this gene and this is why it happened. But mom and dad are both normal dogs and have no effects, which is why some of the puppies don't either. Please reach out to us if you feel you can provide a happy home for one of our puppies ❤️
