I’d like you all to meet Big Sky Smitty. Smitty is a 7 year old intact male from the original Big Sky Retriever lines. Smitty is the son of Big Sky Ace and Big Sky Nyx. You will recall Ace is the son of NFC FC AFC MAXX’S SURPRISE and Nyx is the daughter of NFC FC AFC HUNTER RUNS BOOBOO. Smitty’s champion retriever bloodlines run deep.

7 years ago after my mom lost her beloved dog she went into a depression. We had a Nyx/Ace 8 week old puppy so we sent Smitty to live with mom. Smitty gave mom a reason to go on. Many years later mom has been moved into assisted living and could not keep Smitty. We gathered Smitty up and brought him to the ranch in Hot Springs Montana. He has been with us for a couple of months now and has proved himself to be a fine Big Sky Lab and ready for adoption.

Smitty had extensive obedience training and lived inside with my mom. He is fully house broken and a wonderful companion Lab. He has never been hunted but demonstrates classic Nyx/Ace retrieve and definite prey drive.

It is with profound sadness and a broken heart that I need to inform you that Big Sky Briggs has passed away. We are not sure whether he was kicked by a cow or hit by a car as we found him in a bad way. With much travail we were able to move him inside and spent the night loving and comforting him. He passed on in the morning at 5 am by my side. I laid him to rest in a lovely place under a tree looking out over the fields of the ranch he loved.

Briggs had 4 or 5 litters with his only girl Ms. West. If you have a Briggs/West puppy you will most certainly understand our sorrow. My greatest joy was to come home and be greeted by Briggs turning circles in the driveway with fantastic joy. He was the first to be in my face upon opening the car door.

I believe in God, the creator of all life. I know the Father in Heaven loves me, and thus I know when I enter eternity in Heaven, Jesus will be there to greet me with Briggs turning circles of joy at His side.

I love you Briggs and miss you terribly.

News Flash!! Kevin and Cory Hall have purchased the remaining Big Sky No More Mr. Nice Guy, aka Cooper frozen semen and will be breeding Big Sky Annie to Cooper in the next few weeks. Annie is in season! Annie is the last Big Sky Nyx and Big Sky Ace daughter. When we stopped breeding Big Sky Labs we placed our Annie girl with the Halls who have two other Big Sky Labs. We are continuing to offer upgraded registration from Limited AKC Registration to Full AKC Registration on any Big Sky dog/pup for a $250 fee. The process is fairly simple. Give David a call 406-531-6939.

We are dispersing all of our frozen semen from Big Sky Retrievers original breeding stock. The semen is being kept at our vet in Missoula, Montana. Arrangements can be made for shipping or artificial insemination through vet. There are 5-10 breedings available for each dog. The following is available:

Briggs—son of FC AFC Topbrass Hawk’s Blackhawk. Our Field Bred Golden Retriever. Dark amber. The only Golden Retriever stud we ever had. My personal dog.

Cooper—son of NAFC FC AFC Texas Troubadour. Black Labrador Retriever. Sired more Big Sky pups than all our other studs combined. Outstanding field and family.

Rocko—son of FC AFC Choco Lickity Split. Chocolate Labrador Retruever. Some of the most outstanding chocolates we produced.

We are also offering to upgrade any AKC registration from a previously sold Big Sky pup to FULL REGISTRATION so you may breed and register your Big Sky dogs pups for $250.

Frozen semen buyer must buy all remaining straws of either Briggs, Cooper or Rocko. $250 per breeding. Number straws of semen for a breeding determined by vet and is related to concentration.

Mamma West takes a much deserved rest while Papa Briggs looks after their puppies at the ranch in Hot Springs, Montana.

The decision has been made folks that this was West’s last litter. She will be spayed in the upcoming weeks and live her best life with her bestie, our daughter Anna while she attends vet school at Washington State Pullman. We are very proud of Anna as she whelped, raised and weaned an absolutely stunning litter of 6 males and 3 female puppies. Drop dead gorgeous they are!

All that to say there is just one male puppy available in this litter of nine. If you ever thought you would want a Briggs/West puppy this is the last opportunity.
