Spotlight moment for Yeats from our Poet’s Litter!
At 7 weeks this boy has such a lovely balance of calmer sweetness and a fun, playful side! He is a total love bug; all for the cuddles and so people oriented. He has those big paws, fluffy coat and blocky head. His coloring is blonde with those light Honey highlights. We expect him to be a big boy based on his parents.

He has a slight heart murmur; looks more like an innocent one which is what we’re hoping for as he’d grow out of it—re-check happening in a week. So, this could still be the same and an unknown. Wherever he goes, we want him to receive the unconditional love he deserves and a full life. Of course, we’re all optimistic that he will be 100% and grow out of this.😊🥰

Here’s the handsome Poet males. 4 weeks and thriving! With 9 boys in this litter, there are so many snuggly teddy bears to go around during the visits that are now beginning. Who could resist these cuties? This litter will begin to also go to nursing homes and a private school to ”read” with the children there. This has been mutually beneficial for both the residents and children as well as the puppies. They are loved on in a safe environment while having all their senses engaged, creating positive connections with those new voices, faces and smells. Small car rides, new tactile objects in their environment and so much more as so much development happens in the upcoming weeks.

Balancing, getting used to movement, various sounds during this window before their initial onset of fear, aka the fear stage. Creating positive connections with new experiences to cultivate a love for all things new. Introducing the ‘Poet’s Litter’ which is the theme for the stunning Muffin and Pax litter.

These babies have hit 3 weeks and are already little chunky velvety-soft sweethearts. We are noticing that these babies are very content, quiet and inquisitive. Seeing those first toddling steps and feeling them nuzzle up to your face when you cuddle them will always be precious. At this age their eyes and ears have fully opened and they are moving around, noticing more in their surroundings. Various sounds, sights, textures and smells will be introduced gradually in the days and weeks to come. The importance of the timing of introductions and attention to their responses to different stimuli can’t be underestimated. We love to see those positive connections made when those puppy brains are working well. This breed is simply brilliant!

The super mom, Muffin, and her dozen puppies 🫶🏻
When the vet at ultrasound appointment says they see 5, there can often be more, but my guess was not 12. There are 9 males💙 and 3 females🩷. This first photo gives you a glimpse at Muffin’s humorous side—that face.🤣 She was in top shape and had a smooth delivery without any complications. Those babies came quickly and she is instinctively taking to caring for those babies like a pro. We are so proud of how incredibly well she is doing—she is getting so much mama care and support especially from Joe and Tanya, who are her family she lives with and our Grizzly partners. We are so grateful for everyone who is plugging in to help out at this time.

Edit: He has been matched with an incredible home!

This handsome sweet boy is being rehomed due to circumstances out of his control—he has been very loved and all parties concerned want him to have a home where he will be able to thrive and bond with his new family. Formerly “Gaston” from the lovely Disney litter (Ivy x Paxter), he’s almost 4 months, potty trained, knows hot to use a doggie door and is UTD on vaccines, 12 weeks being the last given. He is intelligent, definitely in the puppy stage still where patience and focused training are a must. He sticks with you, a total Velcro boy that wants to learn and understand. He will do his baby bark when he’s trying to communicate with you, but this is an area he is learning that you communicate with people differently than how you do with other dogs. 😁 He needs a home with a family/individual that will have the time and energy for a puppy that will soak up everything you teach and all the love you have to offer! Please send a message if you believe he might be your match and tell me why! Alternatively, you can set up a time to chat over the phone if you fill out our puppy application on the website first. In-person visits can happen after initial communication if the fit seems right. Current location for Gaston/Bode is in Missoula.

Muffin, the daughter of our retired Honey Bear, is carrying on the bloodlines that started Grizzly Goldens (back to her great, great grand-dam Princess) on her maternal side.

This is the final litter wrapping up 2024 with her sweet pups setting off for their new homes near Thanksgiving time! The very proud sire is Paxter, the big lovable teddy bear shown in the final two photos.

Muffin is a JOY. Her perspective on life is enviable in that she finds happiness in every single thing in life. She not only adores people of all ages, she happily pays with the rest of the pack and is confident and kind to each dog she meets. She LOVES playing in the water, snuggling with you and will tag along for each and every hike with the biggest smile. She has beautiful feathering and a blonde coat with honey highlights. She has those amber eyes we so loved from Kody, her great grandsire.

Paxter is large b***d, blocky and fluffy! He is such a people boy. Whatever you’re doing, he’ll tag along, especially loving it because you’re there with him. He cash total enjoy a day in just chilling on the couch. You just want to give a hug to this boy. It’s really cute also, that he and Muffin are such great friends besides making this litter happen. On hikes, these two will be the ones playing in the stream and tugging on sticks together.🫶🏻☺️ Both live with our Bozeman partners, Joe and Tanya Lair, as part of their family and it’s where her babies will be born and visits will happen at the appropriate age.🥰💓

Some favorite photos from the final summer litter (theme Montana Lakes) that all went home earlier this month. Having our awesome whelping team (thank you Brad and Laurie) for this litter close to Missoula meant I got to see these fluffers much more than the other two full summer litters—my favorite age is when they become the “little bears”. Here’s some favorite photos courtesy of Laurie’s skills. I just can’t be prouder of this litter and know we sent them off with every advantage and so much love. Getting updates on these summer litters has also been so rewarding. Seeing them continue to thrive in various states with their families and the new adventures they get to take part in makes us smile.☺️

Disney litter spotlight moment featuring; Belle! She’s fluffy, a total love and so affectionate. She enjoys to play and interact but has a definite mellow charm to her to make you just want to snuggle her. Little best friend for life right here 💓 Confidently seeing the gentle soul of mama Ivy in this one! I love the honey golden in her ears which is a good indicator of adult coat color.

Spotlight moment for Miss Cherry! She’s a puppy that is as sweet as fresh Flathead cherries☺️ She oozes confidence and is the life of the party! She’s secure in herself and is has an independent streak where she can entertain herself. We love how she also thrives being right in the middle of action as she isn’t phased by anything you might want to do or try next—she’s ready for that adventure.

Pretty Indy. 💓 look at that face! I just can’t handle how snuggly and gorgeous she is. She is so loved and it’s been super awesome to see her be the best big sister to the other pups younger than her. Being a singleton hasn’t meant she was alone in puppyhood for which we are grateful for. She is going to be the star of the show with her new family and we can’t wait to see those happy faces when they meet in person 👏

The Montana Lakes litter is the official litter name for the Mochi x Griz litter. It’s kinda cool that Griz and Mochi have this water theme going on ; their first litter last year was the MT Rivers litter! Merry, the magnificent mama!! She’s a much beloved girl that lives with our Bozeman branch family, Joe and Tanya Lair and where the babies were born (on Thanksgiving ) and are currently living.💗💙 We couldn’t all be prouder of her in how incredible she’s doing with being a new mother. She’s a natural and is nurturing and proud of her babies. From what the vet said at ultrasound appointment, we were expecting a smaller litter only to be surprised with the standard Golden Retriever litter size of 10 beautiful and healthy babies. 4 pretty girls and 6 handsome boys. These babies should be a nice apricot-honey golden, not quite as dark as Merry or as blonde as the sire, Cartier who is a cream Golden with a Europe lineage. Now that we have a gender headcount, it looks like there will be a few spots for those interested in the possibility of this litter being a match. We expect very intuitive, responsive puppies with a balanced and confident demeanor and very sweet, affectionate natures that want to be your cuddle buddy but also love to swim, play fetch and hike. The Montana Rivers litter is the decided upon theme for our Mochi x Griz litter 🏞️ The boys: Yellowstone, Clark Fork, Boulder, Jefferson and Bighorn. The girls: Ruby, Madison, Kootenay, Gallatin, Missouri and Swan. These sweethearts have had a lot of new big experiences from 3-4 weeks. A few new things include; senior center visit, outside time in the yard, exploring new parts of the house, snuggle sessions with waiting families and learning to use a litter box in their space. We are so proud of how they are learning, growing and creating positive connections with these new experiences. They are so impressionable at this stage and we will greatly impact their future responses to new experiences based on how they’re introduced now. Our sweet and beautiful litter from Yogi x Cupcake are little fighters and at 2 1/2 weeks of age they are moving around a lot with eyes open and drinking all that milk like crazy. It’s like they must want mama’s memory to live on in them because these puppies are thriving and growing under the watchful care of surrogate mama Maria (the adult Golden pictured )and her wonderful human who has been bottle feeding these chunkers. Our precious Cupcake x Yogi litter arrived a week ago. There are 8 healthy, beautiful babies. This was a much anticipated litter for those of us excited about a Cupcake baby. She is the sweetest girl who has already been an exceptional mama before nurturing her babies so well. To need an emergency c-section at night (puppy stuck trying to come out wrong) to only lose her the next morning due to internal bleeding post surgery was the biggest shock and devastation to us all. It still feels like it couldn’t be possible. She was only 4, healthy, had a great pregnancy giving those big Golden smiles like she was so proud of being a mama again only to have this opportunity cut short for her. 😭We have been doing all we can to help these babies thrive and have had a kind and knowledgeable breeder friend who has decades of experience who is helping with the bottle feeding and who has the sweetest mama Golden who, although doesn’t have puppies, still loves to mother and clean babies not her own. This has given these babies that canine nurturing that is so beneficial and we’re already seeing weight gains doubling as these babies are thriving. We are so grateful for the puppies having this in their lives during the next couple weeks. I look forward to seeing our sweet Cupcake’s personality shine through in her babies as they grow and mature, I know I’ll be looking.💗

Our Story

We started Grizzly Kennels in 2003 as something the whole family could be involved with. I, Katie (Vannoy) Hodge, have been privileged to be in communication with so many Golden lovers and enjoy the interaction throughout the puppy adopting process with our clients! It is always such a joy to have happy families raving about the perfect fit one of (or two)our Golden Retrievers were for them! We do our best here at Grizzly Kennels in assisting each new family or individual in finding that puppy that is the perfect fit for their lifestyle. Golden Retrievers may all be “golden”, but the are each unique and different like we humans are. We love to see a connection between you and your new puppy! Our clients are mostly here in the USA. We encourage our clients to schedule a time to come visit us, the puppies (when the appropriate age) and their parents in person! Even the best pictures can’t do them justice!Although you can’t beat meeting the puppies in person, we have also had amazing success in placing puppies with the right families and picking out the puppy for the client who is not able to either make the trip out or make two trips; one to pick out and one to take home.

All of our Goldens are AKC registered and most come from Champion bloodlines. Not only do we do health testing such as the OFA hips, heart, eyes and elbows but most our Goldens come from generations of health tested dogs. We have also begun to do a genetic panel specific to the Golden Retriever breed. These health clearances are VERY important and the responsible thing to do; to ensure serious genetic defects in our dogs’ offspring are greatly diminished. Things still can go wrong, but the chances are greatly reduced as precautions are taken before ever breeding a Golden Retriever pair.
