Arthritis can cause discomfort, pain, and reduced mobility in pets, impacting their overall quality of life. Signs of arthritis in pets are similar to what we experience as humans and can include posture changes, difficulty walking, and reluctance to play.

Dr. Danny Sack from MedVet Columbus gives us a few tips for pet owners managing arthritis in their pet, and when to see a veterinarian for further help.

Some steps you can take to help your pet with osteoarthritis:

#1 – Maintain a lean body weight
#2 – Consistent low-level activity
#3 – Joint supplements
#4 – Management of pain with medications
#5 – Consider maintenance rehabilitation therapy
#6 – Keep up with veterinary appointments

Today, on Melanoma Monday, we join the efforts to raise awareness about the signs of this dangerous cancer in pets.

Malignant melanomas often manifest in areas like the lips, mouth, eyes, or nail beds, but with early detection and treatment, there is a high chance of successful outcomes.

If you notice any signs of melanoma in your pet, reach out to your veterinarian for guidance and consider requesting a referral to a Veterinary Oncologist.

MedVet Oncology treats several types of cancers, including melanoma. For a list of MedVet Oncology locations, visit:

Arriving at MedVet Mobile in respiratory distress with a persistent cough, Ziggy began coughing up pink fluid, requiring immediate attention. After a thorough triage and assessment by our team, Ziggy was sedated for an upper airway exam due to a suspected obstruction. Surprisingly, no abnormalities were found in her throat and mouth, leading the team to intubate Ziggy and perform radiographs. A circular foreign body was discovered in her windpipe—and prompt action was necessary.

Once Ziggy was stabilized, we proceeded with the scope to remove the foreign body, which turned out to be an acorn! With said acorn removed, Ziggy gradually regained reflexes, responded to stimuli, and was discharged the following day for continued monitoring with her primary care veterinarian.

Today, Ziggy is back home, running around, and enjoying her meals. Well done, Ziggy!

Ticks can carry diseases, like Lyme disease, that pose serious health risks. Be wary of overgrown bushes, dense vegetation, and excessive yard debris, as these are prime hideouts for ticks.

Lily toxicity is more common in warmer months, particularly for cats. Some types of lilies will cause local irritation to the mouth while others can cause kidney failure.

If your cat has eaten a lily, take them and the plant to your veterinarian, or a pet ER like MedVet, to help determine the best course of action and start immediate treatment if needed.
