Tina S Howard, MA, LPC-S

Tina S Howard, MA, LPC-S Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an experiential therapy in which clients learn about themselves and others through hands on activities with the horse.

The focus is on human skills, not horse skills. Specific treatment goals are identifies but sessions are process focused. Activities can be designed to create metaphors for "real life," with sessions structured and facilitated to address the reasons clients came for therapy. Activities can be designed to work on relationships and emotional regulation by developing a healthy relationship with the horse.

As we celebrate the Christmas season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the message of hope and love that the birth of Jesus brings to the world. For many, this time of year is a reminder of the light that can shine even in the darkest of times. The story of Jesus' birth offers us a powerful example of compassion, grace, and the promise of renewal—values that can inspire us on our own journeys toward healing and growth.
I know that for some, the holiday season can bring both joy and difficulty, and I want to acknowledge the courage and strength you've shown throughout your journey. Healing is a process, and just like the humble birth of Jesus, growth often happens quietly and steadily over time.
This Christmas, I hope you find moments of peace and connection—whether through reflection, rest, or time spent with loved ones. May the spirit of this season remind you that you are never alone, that there is always hope, and that your worth is immeasurable.
Wishing you a Christmas filled with the peace and joy that comes from knowing you are loved, valued, and supported. May the new year bring you continued strength, growth, and healing.
With warm wishes and gratitude,
Tina

Do not let unforgiveness take root in your heart. Remember the forgiveness Jesus has given you to empower you to forgive those people and release them to God. 🤍

We should NEVER make our children afraid.

Children have a biological instinct that prompts them to go to their parents if they're afraid, & if a parent is the source of that fear, who are they supposed to go to?

Be your child's safe place.

Your children are learning to love by watching you…

The way you speak to your partner is how they will learn to speak to them.

How you make your partner feel special, is how they will learn to make their partner feel special.

How you talk to about your partner in front of your kids will show them how they should be spoken about by their partner.

Everything matters. But how you act with your partner leaves the biggest impact.

They are learning to love, how to love, by watching you.

Your self-talk isn't just idle chatter — it's the blueprint for your life. It influences everything from your mood and relationships to your career success and overall fulfillment. By becoming aware of your self-talk and actively working to change it, you can dramatically improve your life in three key areas: your emotional well-being, relationships, and performance. Changing your self-talk is a process. It takes time and practice. But with persistence, you can rewire those mental maps and create new, more empowering thought patterns.

Just as we wouldn't suggest someone with a broken leg rely solely on prayer instead of seeking medical care, we shouldn’t overlook the value of professional mental health support for people of faith.

I wanted to share that I’m offering another experiential weekend focused on helping men work through their formative stories. Our last retreat was well attended and deeply impactful for the men that participated.
In a group context, we'll explore how these stories impact their styles of relating interpersonally, ways of thinking and feeling about themselves, and how this contributes to dysfunctional behavior patterns. I have found that participating in this type of intensive retreat offers tremendous support to an individual therapy process. For many men this work accomplishes therapeutically what would take approximately 6 months to achieve through individual sessions. This experience utilizes the strength of masculine connection to promote relational and emotional growth with other men.
This retreat will be facilitated by myself and Chris Inman. I've been a trauma therapist for 15 years and I’m a facilitator for The Allender Center that focuses on engaging formative stories. Chris is a trauma-informed recovery coach (PSAP) and has extensive experience doing story work and men's weekends.
Meals, lodging and all materials are included in the cost. Please note, this retreat will have a spiritual orientation. It is not group therapy or a replacement for individual therapy, but does work nicely as an adjunctive personal growth process. Please share and anyone interested can fill out this form to learn more.
*If cost is an issue we do have two partial scholarships available upon request.

Confrontations don’t have to trigger fear or frustration. With the right mindset, confrontations can open doors to growth, deeper understanding, and real change.
