Delta Dogs is a non-profit, community supported organization that provides free veterinary care, including spay and neuter, annual vaccines, and preventative medicine, to the pets of Mobile's community in need. Mobile County has a high poverty rate, and through other outreach work, it became evident that many people needed help with medical care for their beloved pets. Our clients include the elde
rly, people on disability, veterans and active duty service members, families in need, women in crisis and the homeless. Delta Dogs provides basic care for pets enrolled in our program, including spay and neuter (mandatory), age appropriate vaccines, annual exams, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, food, etc. Care is provided by licensed Veterinarians in a clinic setting, so our community in need can continue to love their pets and feel comfortable that their needs are met, too. Delta Dogs is a joint effort between local Veterinarian and Nappie Award Winner Dr. Jennifer Wilder and community supporter, Jennifer Greene. With a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University, Dr. Wilder has always had a deep love for animals. As a result, she began volunteering at a local veterinary clinic at the age of twelve. She was eventually hired on at the clinic and continued working there while pursuing her high school, undergraduate, and graduate education. During this experience, she discovered how important it was to be an active part of the community, and help both pets and owners in any way she could. Jennifer Greene is a scientist who specializes in marine and coastal restoration, but in her free time, she manages Delta Dogs with Dr. Wilder. Over the past 5 years, Delta Dogs has provided care for over 300 owned pets and provided multiple vaccine clinics in areas without good access to veterinary care.
